Running great and proudly wearing its stock mid '60s look, this 1965 Chevrolet Malibu is a rare vintage muscle car that's equipped for thrills on the asphalt, but is also perfectly capable of handling everything from weekend jaunts to frequent driving. That's a lot of versatility for a coveted classic that you can also put in your garage at a good price.
As an upscale representative of the Chevelle nameplate, Malibu's carried some serious responsibility when they were first released just one year before this one came out. The car buying world was beginning to lose its fascination with the concept that "bigger was better" and became increasingly drawn to the excitement and enhanced driver experience that muscle cars promised. The Malibu was Chevy's first representative in that competitive segment and, as you can see from this '65, it represented a daunting foe for its adversaries. Clad in its original mist blue color, it's an agile-looking car, with an aggressive appearance that would go on to make it a natural for aftermarket performance enthusiasts. The front and rear heft beyond the tires that Chevy bestowed on its luxury cars was pared down, and though it's still a substantially sized car, you can easily picture this Malibu shredding asphalt before taking its grip and racing forward. It's in good body alignment as well, with doors, hood and trunk that open and close easily and sit flush. Nice clear glass on all four sides adds to its street-ready vibe.
The blue vinyl interior remains in stock configuration and is in clean condition, with bench seats in front and back that are well-padded and comfortable and show no tears or serious imperfections. Just beyond the stock steering wheel, the dash area has been restored to an impressive state, with the original gauges sitting in the instrument cluster still easily readable, blemish-free steel surfaces, and a dash pad sitting on top that's level and free of any cracks. About the only noticeable change from its stock state is the Pioneer AM/FM/CD system that blends in surprising well with its surroundings as it sits in the center of the dash to provide the audio options you'll be looking for as you hit the road. Take a look in back and you'll see a generous amount of rear seat legroom for your backseat passengers. A full-sized spare and jack sit in the spacious trunk area.
A 350 cubic inch V8 sits with room to spare in the amply-sized engine bay. It's carrying a Rochester 4 barrel carburetor on top and is running great, producing just the right resonant note as it breathes into its long tube headers that lead out to a pair of Flowmaster mufflers. The front suspension has been freshened up with a variety of new parts, so you'll find this Chevy's ride impressively smooth and, with power steering and upgraded front disc brakes, it's got both the maneuverability and the stopping power needed to make it perfectly suited to handling everyday driving situations. Despite its more than 50 years of service, it looks great underneath - just a quick glance at the undercarriage gives you all the evidence you need that this classic has been spared the indignity of being run aground. This venerable mid-'60s muscle car sits with a slight incline that hints at its enhanced power, on a set of 15" stock Chevrolet rims wrapped with Milestar blackwall radials.
