They were promoted as a showroom stock race series ( not exactly true but ...1980's marketing at work there.)
SO lets talk about the rarity and what this car and the race series it was in was about
General Motors built 53 Camaro's for this race series and for promotion with these rare COPO cars. This car was bought new by John Cattle from Calgary Alberta whom bought the car from Jack Carter Chev Olds Ltd and then took the car to Davenport Industries and had the spec roll cage and race items installed( The Original #5 stamped cage that is restored and put back in the car with the orig receipt in the book)
The car then went racing for the season. The car retains almost all off of its original metal ( gm original vin stamping on panels to prove) minus the pass door that was replaced after a bump from other competitor in a race in 1987.Of the 53 Camaro Z28 A4U Player race cars I am told ONLY 4 exist today and ONLY THIS ONE has the original documentation.All 53 were pulled from the line April 6th 1987 in Norwood Ohio and a balanced and blue printed factory sealed race engine installed.
These cars at the end of the season were taken back to the dealer and sold to the public as performance cars of the day. This one was sold to its new owner without decals or cage in 1989 after being a showcase car for the dealer for over a year. The first public owner sold it in 2011.When and where the new owner restored the car back to the way you see it and found the ORIGINAL cage which was still with Mr Cattle. ( He is a wel known Players Challenge car restorer.
The A4U was the test bed for the 1LE cars that came in 1988
The players series lasted to 1992 where the government killed alcohol and cigarette advertising in motorsports in Canada.
These cars have been seen as the next blue chip investment. There seem to be many known 1989-1992 cars Very few 1986-1987 are found anywhere and no other one is for sale.
