THE 1964 CORVETTE
The second generation Corvettes, often called "mid-years" or "C2" Corvettes, are arguably the coolest cars in the world. Even people who "don't like Corvettes" like this era of the great American sports car. Some people even say they stopped making 'real' Corvettes with the 1967 model - the last year of the C2's. We could debate that all day long, but C2's really do transcend time. Their matchless design captures the wonder and magic of GM's glory days during the 1960s.In particular, the1964 Stingray was absolutely loved by both critics and consumers alike. When the car debuted, there were virtually no criticisms of the car from any reputable critic. And the '64 has stood the test of time!
MEET SADIE
Sadie is a timeless, numbers matching, almost entirely original, 1964 Corvette Stingray convertible dressed in her original, HIGHLY DESIRABLE color combo: SATIN SILVER exterior with BLACK interior. Sadie is drop dead sexy from every angle and she turns heads everywhere you go!
Sadie has been kept in EXTRAORDINARY CONDITION throughout her entire life! She has her original, numbers matching, 327ci/250hp engine, her original, smooth shifting Muncie 4 speed transmission (code: M20), and her original 3.08:1 positraction rear end (codes: G81 & G91 - which were factory upgrades in '64). She drives strong, brakes straight, and is a BLAST to cruise in!
Sadie has power windows (code: A31), a walnut steering wheel, and comes with *both* a brand new, Al Knoch soft top ($1,000+ installed) *and* the original hard top (code: C07 - currently a $3,000+ value). Her radio works perfectly and her wiper motor has been recently restored (another $1,000+ value!). She has embroidered C2 Corvette floor mats and rides on period-correct, Goodyear whitewall tires. She conveniently comes with THREE sets of keys, a reproduction 1964 owners manual, and a brand new car cover!
DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION!
Perhaps Sadie's most unique characteristic is her documentation -- and we have many binders documenting her story! Not only do we have the original dealer invoice...but we have the original ORDER FORM and the LETTER sent to the original owner telling him that Sadie had arrived! The documentation notes an engine rebuild in 1971, a head and piston job in 1985, and a paint job in 1987. Otherwise, it is pretty routine stuff - Sadie is CHERRY! We also have Sadie's ORIGINAL 1964 owners manual, which has been signed by Larry Shinoda (Corvette's designer) and Zora Arkus-Duntov (Corvette's engineer, often called "The Father of the Corvette")!
DRIVABILITY
Sadie strikes the delicate balance between originality and drivability/safety. To strike that balance, we have tried to keep Sadie almost entirely original, having only upgraded her subtly in key areas that improve the driving experience. Those limited upgrades include power front disc brakes ($1,500+ upgrade), an Edelbrock Performer intake ($250) and a Holley 650 carburetor ($500).
That said, if you are an NCRS collector and want to take Sadie entirely back to stock and pick up an NCRS or Bloomington certification, we can provide the original front drum brakes, intake, carb, alternator and valve covers. The last picture shows what the engine bay looked like in 100% original condition, not very long ago (18 months).
ARE THERE ANY FLAWS?
As with any classic car worthy of being scrutinized in detail at a show, there are a few items to note. They were non issues for us, but we want to disclose them all the same:
-a couple of paint chips where the hard top fits on the body
-a couple of fiberglass chips on the rear undercarriage where she was towed back early in her life
-the odometer works intermittently (other gauges work fine!)
THE BOTTOM LINE
The "C2" Corvette Stingray is the epitome of the American Dream! Everyone should take a trip back in time to 1964 by dropping the top, flipping on the radio, and listening to the Righteous Brothers sing "You've Lost That Lovin Feelin!" In that moment, you are living the dream!
One thing is for sure - when you drive or show Sadie, you WILL get attention! People from all walks of life - young and old - will look, do a double take, and say, "NICE CAR!!!" You can quite literally drive Sadie to a local car show and collect trophies! Priced at only $51,900, Sadie is a great value for the INSTANT CELEBRITY that she delivers!
WARRANTY & INSPECTIONSThis listing is accurate based on my understanding of Sadie and her heritage, however, no warranties on the car nor the description of the car are given nor implied. This car is sold 'as is' with a clear, Florida title that notes that the mileage is in excess of its mechanical limits (which is standard on a classic car from this era). Inspections prior to bidding are welcome and encouraged. That said, visual inspections are welcome for SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY. Please don't waste my time (or yours) just kicking the tires.
PAYMENT AND SHIPPINGPayment is due via cashiers check within seven days of the close of the auction. Sadie will be available for pickup in Sarasota, Florida only after valid payment has been received and has cleared. She can be shipped within the United States, if needed. Shipping must be arranged by the buyer, but I can provide recommendations on a good classic car shipper.
TRADESGenerally speaking, I am not looking to trade Sadie. That said, if you happen to have a 2014 Corvette Convertible in black, silver or grey...let's talk.
A FINAL NOTE TO CLASSIC CAR DEALERS/MARKETERSI am not looking to consign Sadie nor have her marketed by a third party at this time.
