Car description

1966 Chevrolet Corvette Big-Block Convertible

A CLASSIC INVESTMENT!

This could be yours. A legend from a time when our cars were inspired by passion and reflected the independent spirit of America. The classic 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray big-block convertible. In Rally Red, of course.

These second generation Corvettes (1963-1967) are widely regarded as the greatest Corvettes ever made – and near the top of any list of the 100 greatest cars of all time (where most have Italian names and 7-figure price tags). Unbridled power. Stunningly attractive. The sexy curves of this design are instantly recognized and awe-inspring to this day. Proving that good looks never go out of style.

She was born on June 17, 1966. And this isn’t one of those tame small-block models. While it’s not the original 427 turbo-jet V8 engine, she carries an incredible 396 cubic inches of torrid big-block muscle with that signature sound. Definitely not for the faint of heart (the speedometer goes to 160).

Automatic transmission? Heavens no. Four on the floor and a sturdy clutch connect this massive engine to the road. And you’re at the controls – the real driving experience. You’ll get used to the attention and questions wherever you go – unless you step on the gas and leave them behind. This is simply one of the most powerful cars ever made.

Largely unrestored with the rich patina of a genuine classic, examples like this are getting harder to find. This ain’t no trailer queen – she’s meant to be driven. So experience the passion yourself and you’ll forget all those other cars.

Go ahead now…put the top down. The convertible Corvette experience will make you feel years younger. You’re driving a real piece of the American experience. In addition to the remarkably clean white soft top, she even comes with the hard-to-find matching hard top. Either way, you’ll feel the heads turning wherever you go.

4-wheel power disc brakes. Rare power windows. The unmistakable “stinger” hood found exclusively on the big-blocks. The ‘66 roadster is arguably the most beautiful Corvette ever made, and not often found in this price range. Buy this car and drive it - you’ll never get tired of the compliments.

Make no mistake – this isn’t an ordinary car purchase. This is an investment. Your chance to turn some “paper” assets into something real - an American classic.

How much pleasure do your bank or brokerage accounts give you? Those are just numbers on a page – that can leave you feeling vulnerable. The stock market’s been going up like crazy for years now. That makes it a great time to diversify your portfolio of digits into something you can touch – and touching this Corvette is something you’ll never outgrow.

This car is an object of desire. Muscular – yet with all the right curves. Fast – yet dignified and classy. Nudge the accelerator and feel your heart skip as the incredible torque pulls you into the seat. She was special the day she was new…and they aren’t making any more of them.

I’m not some Corvette-flipper. I’ve owned and enjoyed this beautiful machine since 1995 – and it’s the only Corvette or classic car I’ve ever owned. I’m hesitant to let her go, but with growing kids I need the space more than I need the horsepower. But I’m keeping the stories and memories (I know you’ll make your own).

For $55,900 you will be the next proud owner. Or make me an offer.

They don’t make cars like this any more. Now’s your chance to own an amazing piece of American history. Intrigued? Give me a call.

The car is in a storage building in the Des Moines, Iowa area. And I can arrange a viewing for you. Serious inquiries only. I know the next owner would want it that way. Could it be you? Call Dave at 515 - 9sevin5 - 25 ate zero.

More Details:

I bought it in 1995 from a private seller who had bought it in 1977. So it hasn’t been passed around a lot with only two owners in the last 40 years (don’t know about ownership before that).

Paint - rich but aging with a few chips and cracks - is not original but car was originally Rally Red. Original door panels, seats, carpet, spinner caps, and more. These things are getting hard to find!

Transmission is believed to be original, differential and engine are not. Originally a big-block 427CID/390HP car, block stamp indicates the engine is a 396 from a 1968 Chevelle. This motor has been in the car as long as I've owned it and probably much longer.

The frame looks good – just a little surface rust.

I put a fiberglass leaf spring on it 20 years ago – still have the original.

Headlight motors and power windows work well.

Owner’s manual is still with the car. Custom-fit car cover and assembly manual included too.

I want to hear from you – call me for more information or with your questions. I’m happy to provide more pictures – we can even Skype or FaceTime a tour of the car! Of course, I encourage you to get to Des Moines, Iowa and inspect the car in person before making an offer. This car gives you flexibility. Gradually put money into upgrades - or just drive it!
