Car description |
---|
Up for auction is a real deal numbers matching 1969 Camaro RS/SS Pace Car, one of 3675 made with a little over 84,000 original miles. This is a very original car that was restored in 2008. I will do my very best to accurately describe the vehicle’s condition and present what I know about the restoration and history of the car.
The car is a matching numbers 350/300 hp with an M-20 4 speed transmission and 3.08 rear also numbers matching. Options include power top, power steering and power brakes, gauge package. The car is equipped with original gauges (see pictures of date codes), console, dash and most trim. I will say this is one of the most original vehicles I have owned. I purchased the car from the second owner who purchased the car from the original owner sometime around 1978. Second owner drove it and tinkered with it until about 2008 when he decided to restore the car. I have receipts of the restoration done. I do have a few pictures of the car being restored, receipts of the restoration and an email from the wife of the previous owner with some background on the car going back to the late 1970’s
Restoration was pretty good in my opinion and it appears the previous owner did not necessarily keep the car in proper storage. Maybe the car sat outside under a cover I don’t know but when I purchased the car the engine compartment was a mess and the paint was a bit chalky.
COWL TAG
Car was built during the first week of May in the Norwood plant. There were 3675 of these vehicles made in 1969. Cowl tag reads:
Z11 code denoted Pace Car
TR 720 Orange Houndstooth interior only available on the Pace Car
PNT 50 Dover White
05A build date. Late build for a pace Car since the race was on May 30th, most likely one of the last Pace Cars made.
Engine
Engine stamp reads TO430HA.
VIN number is legible (picture included) 640558 showing engine matches the VIN
VIN stamping on the Transmission indicated the M20 is matching as well (see picture). Date code is April 25th (9D25A)
I have cleaned up the engine bay and it is more than presentable. All components are there and the car runs amazing. Everything is original or correct except for the carb Car starts right up and runs very smooth. No issues at all with its performance. All components for the cowl induction system are present.
Intake, heads, valve covers, exhaust manifolds are date coded correct and I assume are original to the car
Exterior
All body panels except for the quarters are original to the car however original GM quarters were used to restore the car. GM stickers are visible inside the quarters. There is still original paint visible is areas like the underside of the trunk lid, fenders, filler panels, etc. Panel fitment is very good, fenders line up well, hide away headlights, doors do as well. Has an original cowl hood and this is a hard part to find. Paint is very presentable but showing signs of age. The average person may need to look hard but there are some flaws, hazing, etc but nothing that significantly detracts from the car. There are no dents, dings or scratched either. The weld on the quarters to the rear filler panel is not good but not a big distraction to the overall appearance of the car. Some minor surface rust beginning on the lower quarters and rocker weld but all surface rust. I have included pictures in the ad. Overall the car is very presentable with original chrome, bumpers, bumper guards, etc. Chrome is very nice with no pitting. Windshield top molding is delaminating but I purchased new ones which go with the sale. No exterior trim, badges, etc. are missing. No parts at all needed to be purchased for the car.
Convertible top is power and works great. Top is in good shape with one small tear about ½ inch long.
Wheels, trim rings, center hubs and tires are all good.
All glass is original except for the windshield and is in great shape.
I have new GM restoration actuators to get the hide aways working vacuum good and new actuators will make them operate.
Interior
Interior looks great. Seats appear to be recovered and the door panels, rear arm rests and rear panels appear to be original to the car but dyed. Dash, dash cluster, glove box door are all original with normal wear. Nothing was restored. I believe the dash pad is aftermarket. The radio is an aftermarket AM/FM but the dash was not cut. Clock works but doesn’t keep good time even the key buzzer works. Console, gauges, shifter are all original to the car and work. Amp needle bounces sometimes and It is probably a ground wire issue. Rugs look great and GM rubber mats are in the car. Again the interior is so original and nothing is missing. Seat belts are tired but all there. I purchased a boot from Legendary Interiors and it fits great. Trunk is rock solid and the mat appears original. Cocktail shakers are still there. Also something interesting is there is a flare and a bracket to hold a flare. It looks original but can’t find any info on a package in 1969 with a flare as a component.
I have included a number of pictures of the car which will accurately represent this classic. It is hard for me to sell this.
I feel I provided an accurate description of the car. There are some wear issues but you would be hard pressed to find a car with this many original parts and a car that doesn’t need any pieces. You can get in it and drive. It is a real attention getting presents very very well and a low reserve for this rare car. I am happy to answer any questions you have.
