1967 Corvette Coupe Matching Numbers L-79 327CID/350HP. Highly Optioned Rare A/C. Power Windows. Side Exhaust Original Example. This Goodwood Green/Saddle Tan. 4-speed manual transmission Vette is near perfect. An older restoration. yet still looks amazing and an absolute blast to drive. The L-79 is without a doubt my favorite engine in the C2 Vettes. I’ve owned four C2’s…big block & small block examples. yet this was the first true L-79 I found that has lived up to the hype. Amazing torque and response. yet not the nose-heavy. sluggish turning of its big block brethren. this ’67 is the exact car I have spent years looking for. Sad to see it go. but too many cars and another newborn arrival with my growing family. it’s time I start to downsize my classic car collection. My criteria when I went looking for this particular C2 was the following: I was hell-bent on finding a Goodwood Green w/ Saddle interior…I’ve always loved the color combo and while GW Green was the most produced color in 1967 on the Corvette. it is surprisingly difficult to find these days as it seems most original GW green cars have been changed to either red. black or one of the many shades of blue Chevy was putting on the Vette’s back in the 60’s. Beyond the color. I wanted a small block. matching #’s engine and preferred the L-79 if possible. As I said previously. I have owned big & small block C2’s. yet always preferred the driving characteristics of the small block Vette’s (plus they tend to not pump out as much heat in the cabin and just an all-around less temperamental engine for daily driving when compared to their big block brothers). I owned a 327/300HP example that was a fun cruiser. but always wanted a little more torque and HP. Believe me. there’s a HUGE difference in a 327/300 vs 327/350 C2…drive both back-to-back and I guarantee you’ll forget about the 327/300 in seconds. The 327/350 L-79 reminds me of a big block in pulling power. yet it handles like the amazing small block Vette’s should. Since I’ve read so many great things about the L-79. I was hoping to find a strong running example. When I finally did find a true L-79 that was strong AND in my color combo. I had to have it. The fact that it also had the very rare factory AC AND Power Windows plus side exhaust options made it even better. I also preferred no power brakes and steering as I’ve found the false road feedback and generally poor-performing (and always leaking) power steering units in these C2 Vettes to be annoying. Since it’s a small-block. the lack of power steering is not an issue in slow. parking lot driving as it is still relatively easy to turn (something that can’t be said for the big blocks). Also. I LOVE manual brakes as they really connect me to the car as I know exactly how hard I’m working when braking and I find it’s easier to not lock up the brakes as opposed to the power brake optioned cars. The best way to describe the driving characteristics of this Vette is POSITIVE FEEDBACK. The transmission & rear-end are perfectly geared. it shifts smoother than any other 4-speed C2 I’ve owned and the power band in each gear is phenomenal. Come and drive this car and you’ll understand exactly what I’m talking about after only a few shifts. The AC is hooked up and blows cold. but by no means would I classify it as “ice cold” like a modern car. It does a decent job cooling the cabin when temps are under 90 degrees. but if you live in a climate that gets really hot in the summer. I would recommend doing a swap to a modern R-134 refrigerant. Living in southern CA. this wasn’t a huge deal for me as I don’t really use the AC (just love the awesome looks of the in & under dash AC vents). Everything works on the car as it should. minus the dash clock that I was told was disconnected by the previous owner due to a battery drain when the car is not being run. The power windows work extremely well (very fast up & down). as does the original push-button AM/FM radio. Since I’ve owned it. I’ve replaced rear calipers/pads. fixed both non-working door locks. new alternator and auto-choke (the choke was causing a drain that killed the battery after 4 days of not running the car…all has now been sorted and the car can sit for as long as you like without killing the battery). flushed all systems (oil. gas tank. brake lines. radiator). and new dash pad. The car was obviously very strong when I got it. but I simply corrected a few minor details that made the car perfect to enjoy on a daily basis without fear of breakdown or theft. It lights off. idles perfectly and drives down the road (and stops) as straight as an arrow. The car received a complete restoration years ago (approx. 8 years) from a husband and wife owner that enjoyed it for many. many years before and after the restoration. The only thing that is not “As Left the Factory” is the ’67 big block ‘stinger hood’…but honestly I didn’t mind as I’ve always preferred the elegant yet tough look of the stinger and think it complements the side exhaust pipes very well. There are no fiberglass cracks and no major paint issues. Chrome all around is near perfect and the interior seats. headliner. gauges. door cards and carpets also show little to no wear. I refuse to classify the paint as “Showroom” or “Mint” unless there are absolutely zero flaws…yet this car is an extremely high quality driver. so you can find flaws. Best way for me to classify the paint is a “Very. very strong 5-footer”. From 5 feet away you will think it’s perfect. but upon close-up inspection you can find some paint flaws. I actually drive my classic cars regularly and never look for showroom perfect as then I tend to be too worried about getting out and enjoying them on the open road. This ’67 Vette is a beauty and I guarantee the new owner will drive and enjoy this car with zero fears of mechanical breakdown. yet don’t expect to fly under the radar – this car gets noticed EVERYWHERE it goes. Drop dead gorgeous looks and the growl from the side-pipes makes people take notice when you rumble down the street. If you’re interested. please call me directly at 310. 291. 5377 to discuss.
