Description
Recently restored 1968 Camaro SS 396 Convertible with Muncie 4 speed. Car was featured in the April 2014 Hot Rod Magazine as a Factory SS396 Barn Find.As the article states the original owner started to restore the car but gave up on the restoration in 1981, then the Camaro sat in the Barn until 4 years ago. As the article reads the original Big Block was removed long ago...From here I purchased the car and began a complete subframe off restoration. Upon tear down all the signs were there to prove the car was a Factory Big Block Camaro like BB heater core,BB crossmember, heavy duty fuel lines, original coded "BS" on the 12 bolt posi traction rear, four piston front disc brakes.Car has the original hood, trunk, doors, trunk, and floor. Car came with nos fenders that we're installed, and had to replace the 1/4(went with high quality full 1/4s).Once all the panels were properly fitted/gapped/installed I decided to go back with the original as built color P-1, Seafrost Green with a white top. Less than 3% of Camaros were produced in 1968 with Seafrost Green. I have restored five prior first gen Camaros and I have never seen a Camaro in this color, and it is a Beautiful color.During the restoration I replaced the bushings, shocks, suspension, all new brake lines, and rebuilt brake components, complete new Flowmaster exhaust system, kept with the original exhaust manifolds. Replaced the front wiring harness, all glass/trim is original minus a new windshield, replaced the fuel lines and gas tank. All electrical works minus the radio which is installed but inop, but who in there right mind would listen to the radio over the bellow of a Big Block Chevy with a Muncie 4 speed?. 15x7 rallys in front with 15x8 in rear, new radial T/As.I sourced a 396 and had a local speed shop do a complete rebuild, went with a proper cam, stock cast intake, 4 barrel quadrajet carb. The engine has a Factory 396 appearance, has less than 700 miles since build. The Camaro starts, runs and drives very nicely. A serious car for a serious collector, clean sc title in hand.Of course any serious bidder is welcome to come see the car prior to auction end.
