Car description

Titled as actual original miles, this C-10 pickup shows 22,993 miles on the odometer and retains its original 327 engine, listed as an L-30 on the glovebox option plate, with casting codes matching the time period. Originally a Three-Speed-On-The-Tree transmission, this truck now has a GM Post-86 700R automatic transmission (professionally rebuilt in 2014). The column shift is a period-correct tilt column from another GM product.

Limited paperwork came with the truck, but it appears the first owner bought the truck in March of 1967 and didn't sell it until 2012. The next owner bought and partially restored the truck (including a front disc brake conversion, conversion to the common 5x5 GM axle pattern and new paint), while the third owner owned the truck for just one year (and had the transmission rebuilt). I bought the truck in November 2014. The glovebox retains the 1967 Owner's Manual and Protect-O-Plate with pamphlet.

It appears that when the truck was partially restored that it was repainted to Chevy Blue. The interior color appears original. There is no rust on this truck, and the cab corners are solid. They are either original or were subject to a very good welding job at some point, see photos... The bed is fully painted to outside panel standard, with just a few scratches from loading/unloading on the lower inner tail gate and a few small scratches in the bed itself.

In my ownership, it has hauled the occasional hay bale for the chicken coop or a few bags of concrete from Home Depot. Early on, I bought the bed and tailgate rubber mats to protect truck bed paint when I did haul something in the bed. The bed cover is a padded clamp-on system, so is easily removed without a trace that it was installed.

The 700R transmission has an overdrive lock up system. This truck has a switch on the lower dash to switch the lock up on/off if you do highway driving.

In my ownership, I rebuilt the rear brakes (new wheel cylinders and shoes) and flushed the brake lines, as well as completed 2 oil/filter changes, new spark plugs, new hoses, new belt and new coolant. I replaced the intake manifold with the correct one (it had an incorrect high RPM manifold). I also replaced the rear axle cover and changed the rear axle gear oil to cure a leak. Truck has been stored in a heated garage, and not driven in the rain.

Everything works on the truck, but the fuel gauge does not return to E when the truck is turned off. The fuel gauge is accurate when the truck is running however.

If wanted, I have the original 6 bolt rear axles and front drums, as well as the original HD rear springs and the original but cracked steering wheel.

The Good:

Very Clean Truck: No Rust, No Dents, One Tiny Chip (rear passenger side at tailgate). Very slightest surface corrosion visible on unrestored cross members across frame that hold the bed onto the frame. No accidents in my ownership and no evidence of any in the past.

Excellent Drivability: Starts, idles, and accelerates well; brakes are strong and stops in a straight line. The truck now has 5x5 GM bolt pattern axles and has been converted to front disc brakes. Brakes are power-assist, as is the steering box. Spare tire and wheel was purchased in 2015, but I don't have an original jack set.

Limited Modifications: Chrome Dress Up Kit largely limited to engine bay, steering wheel and wheels. Would be easy to de-chrome or upgrade truck if desired. Modern GM 700R4 transmission.

Strong Engine: Edlebrock Performer Air Gap Intake and Performer Carburetor with modern electronic distributor, exhaust runs through headers and 2.5" tailpipes with low-restriction mufflers, all stainless steel. I drove a lot of 1967-72 Chevy V-8 trucks before buying this one, and this one feels quite strong.

The Bad:

Steering Wheel is not straight. The truck tracks straight down the road, but I wanted to replace the steering wheel with a more period-correct wheel and then have it aligned professionally. I did not get to that project.

Power steering works well, but will squeak if pulled all the way over to one side when cold (but not when hot).

Column Shift is a period correct item but, due to a little wear, rattles slightly at idle. If you put your hand on it, it stops. It doesn't rattle in any gear or when the truck is underway and works just as intended.

Passenger Side Header shows a oil drip spot and you can occasionally smell oil. I've only put about 400 miles on the truck in the three years I've owned it, and the oil leak has not been an issue. The engine does drip a little oil when first stored after a run, but as much would be expected with an original engine of this age.

$2,000 non-refundale deposit due within 2 days of auction end via PayPal, with full remaining amount due as cash, certified funds or wire transfer due within 7 days. Truck to be picked up in 10 days. Clear title. This is an old vehicle, so no warranty offered.

Addition: I also replaced the battery in 2015.
The truck has been very reliable for me, the low miles I put on the truck are due to my busy schedule (and the shorter classic car season up here in snow country) preventing me from enjoying it. Not having the time to enjoy it is why I'm selling the truck.
