Car description |
---|
To start with, let me first say that I am listing this '70 Chevelle L78 Super Sport for a well-known classic and muscle car dealership and in doing so, I will be acting as an agent for this dealership. The owner, who is a friend and someone that I have known for over 20 years, founded his dealership in 1996 and has been a veteran of the car business for over 30 years. All of his vehicles are chosen for the highest standards and quality. A careful and complete analysis is done on every one before they offered for sale.
Let me say that I understand that there is a lot of information in my ad. I also understand that this may be boring to the person who is just looking and not buying. However, for the person who is looking to buy and spend their hard earned money, I feel that there is never too much information.
As to myself, I am a (67) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback which is 100% with (1,166) transactions. Many of those have been muscle cars which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland and Australia.
1970 was one of the greatest years in the American muscle car era. An abundance of style & attitude.
Although it existed a mere 13 years before it morphed officially into the Malibu, Chevrolet's Chevelle remains a beloved muscle car. Introduced in 1964, the mid-sized car was produced to compete with the Ford Fairlane. The Chevelle SS was the carmaker's high performance version of the Chevelle. Featuring its own line of performance products and engines, the Chevelle SS boasted the most powerfully rated engine of all the muscle cars.
1970 saw the introduction of the most powerful Chevelle SS of all time. Responding to the lifting of GM's ban on engines larger than 400 cid in midsize cars, Chevrolet responded by dropping in a new 454 cubic engine into its Chevelle SS. The top engine choice was the LS6 version with 450bhp. The standard Chevelle SS 396 continued with its 402 cid engines, although the 325bhp was dropped and the 350bhp version was now standard. Optional on both the 396 and 454 was a new cowl-induction hood, which had a rear facing flapper near the base of the windshield to feed air into the engine. The styling was new with a "vee" front end, functional hood pins, and five-spoke Rallye wheels. This was truly the pinnacle of the Chevelle SS performance.
For your consideration is this beautiful 2nd generation 1970 Chevelle SS in its original color scheme. A true 396/375 HP L-78 Super Sport, one of only 2,144 built from the factory in 1970. This rare example has been frame off restored and is from the state of Wisconsin. The cars exterior paint has a high glossy finish and straight original body panels with proper alignment to all the cars sheet metal. Looking at the cars exterior appearance the chrome bumper, stainless trim, emblems and glass are all considered excellent condition. She is highly detailed under the hood with a stock factory appearance accept for headers. (Factory style exhaust manifolds are in the trunk.) The car drives shifts and performs well.
The interior has been fully restored with new carpet, seat covers, door panels, headliner, GM seat belts and new rear package tray. Shows no wear or tear on the inside of this 1970 Chevelle Super Sport.Fully tinted glass all around.

The muscle car that everyone talks about, you have to take a look at this wicked nice and authentic '70 Chevelle Super Sport that wraps "Muscle Car Styling" around "Big Block" horsepower and is the stuff legends are made of. "THIS IS" the top muscle car that every gear head wants to park in their driveway.
My Comments: Are you serious!! According to the Hagerty Classic Car Values, the 1970 L78 Chevelle SS is one of the few muscle cars that are actually carrying an investment type of value based on their condition since 2014.
As of may 2017, Hagerty values this car at:
Number 1 (Concours): $93,200
Number 2 (Excellent): $69,400
Number 3 (Good) $53,700
Number 4 (Fair): $39,600
Add to this the most desirous year for Chevelles ever produced with the super rare (only 2,144 produced) L78, 396ci/375hp original block. Throw in the 4-Speed with a 12-bolt posi. This makes this car better than the flip side of your pillow and a wicked good deal. Need I say more? I think not!!!

A question was asked about the paint code shown on the trim tag appears to be 43 and the paint code shown on the Buildsheet is 48. How could this be? I never noticed it but after closer inspection of the trim tag, the paint codes are actually both 48 or Forest Green. Not sure why the trim tag was cleaned the way it was but as you can see in this photo, 48 48 are the correct paint codes. Sorry about any confusion and thanks for bringing that to my attention.
