Hello Corvette Fans
Up for auction I have a nice1958 California Corvette Convertible. This Corvette is inun-restored condition. This Corvettehas the Rare Power window Option only 649 cars were built with this Option.
The same owner has held on to this beauty for the last 33 years and finally decided to let her go. This car runs like a dream and drives down the road great. Over the past 33 years thisCorvette has been driven less than 3000 miles. The body lines on this car are very straight. Thedoor gaps, hood gaps, and trunk gaps are true and parallel this car isa greatcandidatefor a restoration in my opinion.I wouldcallthis car is a 20 footer the paint is about 40 years old (Not the Original Color) however she still turns heads. The paintin my pictures looks much better then it shows in person.I would rate the paint a 4 out of 10 and the interior a 3-4 out of 10, however she does come with new interior. The Convertible top is ingreat shape no rips or tears.
Please note there are only 24 pictures of this Corvette hereon eBay I have a link to 146 more pictures of this car on a link at the end of the page. Please check out all of the pictures before you bid there is about $8000-$10,000 worth of Factory GM Corvetteparts that Will be sold with this car!!! Make sure you read the whole ad for a parts list!!!
Even though this car turns heads she still needs restoration if that is what you desire. Or she can be driven in the condition she is in. This Vette is Solid. The miles on the odometer are not actual miles. I'm Not sure how many miles are on this Corvette.
Serial # J58S101329 #1329 of 9168 Produced in October or Nov 1957.Has hood prop on RH side with generator on LH side - this was reversed after the first month or two of production.
Has w/washers, Wonder bar radio, park brake alarm, heater and courtesy lights
Does not have correct engine, believe the short block is a 1965 327. Date code on block is G135. Believe the heads are original as they have the stagger bolt valve covers which were discontinued in midyear 1959.
Hasa Borg Warner T10 transmission (not the original)
Also have a spare T10 with the correct style case that goes with this car from a later year. The car had a Muncie trans when it was bought 33 years ago.
The shifter is a Hurst replacement for the 1958 so it looks stock but shifts tight.
Currently does not have an early bell housing, the starter bolts to the block.
However the correct style bell housing and starter that bolts to bellhousing will go with this car.The extra starter will need to berebuilt
The rear diff and axle bearings were replaced in 2006 - about 500 miles ago.
I believe the gearratio is 3:55.not a posi.
Has Coker wide whites all 5. Has the original wheel covers. The radial is wider than the original so the spare tire holds the board up under the trunk mat. The trunk liners and mat have been replaced, the board is original with the original Jack instructions still in place!!! No jack.
The gauges and the radio seem to be original to the car.
1958 was the only year with a revolution counter on the tach. The speedo and the tach are not hooked up. They were that way when the car was bought 30 plus years ago. The rest of the gauges do work. It does have the tach drive generator which does work. Have a rebuilt the generator and the tach drive.
The heater does work but it is never turned on.
The wiring, blower motor, switches, window motors, wiper motor, etc are almost 60 years old. Most everything works but reliability is always a concern due to the age.
Replaced the generator wiring harness, the fuel sender, the convertible top (the frame is original), the seat covers, the radio antenna and lead in cable, oil pan gasket, transmission, shifter, Cross Member, shift plate, rebuilt the starter and generator, re-cored the radiator, replaced the brakes, rebuilt the rear end, replaced the rebound straps, rebuilt the carb, tuned it and boiled the fuel tank over the last 33 years. Most of this was done in the 80's just to reduce the odds of a failure.
The teeth in the grill are not original, when the Corvette was bought 33 years ago they were missing. The teeth were bought from a restoration house in 1984 they are not high end.
The rest of the body and trim is believed to all be original in my opinion. There is evidence of body repair in the left front - it has an uneven stack of shim washers on a brace it looks like below average work. Don't see any other body repairs.
The car was originally red, the paint shows in places in the top storage compartment. The interior also was red and has been dyed. The door and kick panels are original, the carpet that was removed was rotting so it was left out didn't want to put the new carpet in until restoration. The dash pad has been recovered poorly in my opinion.
The suspension - ball joints- tie rods etc are believed to be all original. Took some of it apart - cleaned off 45 years of yuck and reassembled it. Couldn't find anything to replace. Then it was aligned. This Vette drives straight as a die and It did before was checked out.
Parts that go with this car are listedbelow
Correct date code 1958 283ci engine with the correct stagger bolt heads, intake manifold and carb. Carb is missing the choke cover. The block date code is K87 November 8th 1957. This will all need to be re-built. The block has a bolt broken off and crooked in rear that can be repaired.
When the engine waspurchasedwas toldthat it was from a 58 or 59 fuel injected car, can't confirm by the stamped #
Door panels, kick panels, arm rests and carpeting, and related screws - restoration quality from Al Knock interiors. Over $2000.00
Complete wiring harnesses from American Autowire. This should replace every wire on the car. New headlamp switch, turn signal switch dimmer switch and temp sending unit.
New door whiskers and most of the weather strips, body gaskets and grommets for the car.
New GM stainless side trim (except v at end) and new cove spears. These parts are very expensive!!!
New GM front park lamp assemblies - also very unavailable they sell for big $$$.
New GM front and rear emblems and bezels. NOTE - replacement bezels used silver trim, OE was gold. The Bezels on the car are gold and pretty clean.
Seat belts and brackets
Correct style steering wheel and horn button
Spare T10 transmission, transmission has had a mounting ear broken and welded back on, the repair appears high quality.
Also have the correct style Bell Housing and starter and Extra tach drive generator.
Does not have the tach drive and does have a broken end plate but the armature on it is very special and rare.
The Door sill plates and console trim (Was removed when the carpeting was removed)
Have new wood spacers for under the sill plates.
A whole bunch more of small items go with this Vette - lots of duplications, picked up pieces here and there over the past 30+ years.
Please note the buyer is responsible for all shipping cost to get this car and all the thousands of dollars worth of parts to their location. All of these parts will not fit inside this car during shipping nor would I want to send all of the parts with a risk of loosing some of them in transit. The best bet in my opinion would be a enclosed truck that can haul the Corvette andall the parts. Just a suggestion.
These cars are hard to find and to find a quality un-restored 1958 Corvette Convertiblein this condition is rare. Please DO NOT ASK ME THE RESERVE!!!
