Car description

I'm reluctantly selling my favorite Camaro of which I've owned several over the years. My car has a little over 36,800 original miles on it. It runs and drives like its almost new. I purchased this car in 2001 after seeing it at a Wednesday night cruise in Elmhurst Illinois. When I saw the car I knew exactly what it was. As a kid I remember reading about the Bill Mitchell Concept Camaro's in R&T and C&D( magazine copies included)back in the late 70's. I was a big fan of Mark Donahue. Mark and Bill Mitchell were responsible for creating the IROC series and this was their answer, the Concept Camaro, to the mundane "so called" performance cars coming from Detroit in the mid to late 70's. Bill Mitchell was a GM engineer and champion SCCA driver. Google 1980 Bill Mitchell Concept Camaro and you'll see a great article about my car in Super Chevy, also search Stegmillers 2nd Generation Camaros's for Special Camaro's. Super Chevy called my car Pro Touring before Pro Touring. After Mark died, Bill Mitchell continued building and selling the Concept Camaro from his shop in Cheshire Connecticut. After speaking to him, Bill referred to my car as the Canadian Camaro because it was built for a Canadian who owned a home in Florida where it spent the first half of its life. This is one of two Air Research turbocharged Camaros for 1980. I've never seen or heard of another that was turbocharged, of any year. A very expensive car for the day this car cost $15,000 additional over and above the cost of a brand new Z28. Bill Mitchell modifications were taking the stock 350 block and adding Carrillo rods and pistons, Air Research turbo, 427 heads modified for performance and cooling, 9 qt oil pan with two oil filters, water injection adding up to a lot of torque with a 3:42 posi rear. At a time when Baldwin Motion, Yenko, and Nicky Chevrolets were all the rage, the Concept Camaro was at it's pinnacle. Bill Mitchell even entered a Concept Camaro in the 24 hours of Daytona back in 1980. More Mitchell mods included a sliding sunroof, bigger Buick brakes, heavy duty front and rear stabilizer bars with a lowered spring setting suspension, mini lite 15" alloy wheels, fuel cell in trunk, straps on windshield and back glass, terrific Recaro seats in material to match the upholstery, Racemark steering wheel, Nakamichi stereo with a JVC equalizer, built in Escort radar detector and special front, rear and side air dams and fairings that are similar but totally different than a Pontiac Trans Am. The AC stopped blowing cold about 5 years ago and being I drive it on nice days only...who cares. I love this car! I'm moving back home to Los Angeles and it kills me not take it. I'm an old autocrosser from way back and I've had in the past some weekend autocrossing fun at the Autobahn in Joliet and Gingerman in Michigan. This car handles unbelievably, it shamed my 1968 Shelby GT500. The 2nd half of its life has been in my heated garage and this car has never seen snow or salt and rain only when I couldn't get it home in time. When you see the undercarriage you'll realize how nice this car really is, unmodified, totally as Bill Mitchell built it and original and unrestored, just the way it came from Chevrolet. About two years ago I replaced the original radiator with an aluminum 3 core and installed a new water pump. Prior to that the turbocharger was rebuilt and a new exhaust system installed. It runs and drives like a 36000 mile car should, tight and straight. eBay limited me on the amount of photos I could post, there's a lot more so feel free to email or call me with any questions. Also, if serious buyer inquired I can pull the car out of the heated garage and take a video of the car and drive it around the neighborhood while videoing, just ask, assuming no snow or salt on the streets and then I can email it to you. I 'm Sure your like me and like to talk to the seller as well as I'd like to talk with the buyer so before placing a bid, call me.
