It’s been said that actions speak louder than words. That may be true but in the case of the quality of this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, certifications trump them all. Top Flight from the National Corvette Restorers Society. Chevy/Vettefest Nationals Gold Spinner Award. National Corvette Restorers Society Performance Verification Award. National Corvette Certification Board Bloomington Gold Certificate. Gold Spinner Council Triple Crown Award. The National Corvette Restorers Society Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. Need we go on? This stunning ‘Vette has them all and is the creme de la crème. It’s the very one every starry-eyed enthusiast wants to own and dreams of driving.
This 62 Vette presents in excellent condition but perhaps more importantly, is the way it would look when it rolled out of the factory. In this case, it was assembled at the St. Louis, MO plant. It was then sold new at Courtesy Chevrolet in sun-soaked Los Angeles. It rang up at a whopping $4,693.40. It’s equipped with the very desirable 340 horsepower, 327ci V8. The exterior is painted in Honduras Maroon paint and complemented with black trim and a black convertible top.
A full restoration has been done on the iconic cruiser and the result is remarkable. The driving is very authentic and natural. The overhaul didn’t remove that visceral sensation, as is often the case. Everything on this Vette works well and it drives just like you’d expect with that high-powered engine. Once those solid lifters fire up, it hums just like a well-oiled sewing machine and is very peppy. Well-trained ears will detect it rumbling a mile away.
A quick walk-around the exterior reveals just how gorgeous this sexy beast really is. The red is subtle without being too over the top. It’s highlighted by the chrome brightwork, which sparkles and dazzles in the sunlight. Inside the all-business cockpit, it’s focused and purpose built with it’s black and chrome color scheme. The quality is first-rate and all materials and surfaces are just are spotless as when it sat on the dealer’s west-coast lot all those years ago. It’s elegant and brash all at the same time.
Turn the key to fire up the power plant and slip your hand over the cue-ball shifter and if your heart isn’t racing, you better check for a pulse. Flip open the hood and no surprises await. It’s all clean and spot-on. Remember? This Corvette is practically the gold standard of them all. For further proof, Zora Duntov’s (aka the Father of the Corvette) signature can be found just behind the chromed air cleaner.
All told, this Chevy has it all. The right engine, the right looks and most certainly the right pedigree that will impress even the most discerning bunch of Corvette fanatics. It’s the complete package and sure to light a fire in any motoring enthusiast.
