Flashy muscle cars are fun and polished customs are nice, but there's really nothing cooler than a well-done truck. No gimmicks, no frills and no posturing; just strength and presence - LOTS of presence. This exceptionally clean Apache is a subdued stunner that mixes 235 cubic inches of Thriftmaster 6-cylinder with an era-correct driveline, crisp aesthetics and a detailed, frame-off restoration. And if you're looking for a cool classic that's both road ready and show-ready, it's the perfect way to cruise the scene and turn some heads!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of a high quality, frame-off restoration, this sweet Chevrolet half-ton is a fully sorted crowd gatherer that wraps classic '50s design around proven GM mechanicals. During its rejuvenation, the truck's expressive body panels were stripped, massaged into a super straight canvas and bathed in vivid blue 2-stage. Under that glowing pigment, solid panels still exhibit all the stylistic drama famously associated with Detroit's golden era of motoring. Those panels feature alignment that's much better than 50-year-old factory fodder. And today, this Chevy rolls as a white glove classic from a blue-collar world!

In 1955, Chevrolet's Public Relations gurus dubbed the brand's new truck the Task Force series. At its core, "Task Force" is a naval term that refers to the specific manner in which a job is accomplished. And that svelte marketing jargon can be further distilled into a stylish yet functional combination of attractive lines and purposeful attributes. At the front of this Chevy, a 'valleyed' hood hangs a red-tinged Chevrolet crest above modern headlights, chrome-trimmed parking lamps and a polished, "CHEVROLET" branded grille that's stretched over a wide bumper. At the back of that hood, a curved "Sweep-Sight" windshield and like-new greenhouse glass align behind polished stainless trim and fresh stainless wipers. At the sides of that windshield, floating "CHEVROLET APACHE" emblems lead simple door handles, correct chrome mirrors, a short antenna and a blue-tinged fuel filler. At the back of the truck, a wood bed centers a chrome-trimmed, "CHEVROLET" branded tailgate between aluminum steps, sleeved chains and billet bowtie caps. And, beneath that bed, another wide bumper reflects cool blue dot taillights opposite polished bowtie exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Hoist the truck's Dynalined hood and you'll find 235 cubic inches of inline 6-cylinder that wear an era-correct 3764476 casting number. Introduced for use in large platforms, and regarded as one of the all-time great Chevrolet powerplants, the Thriftmaster is a favorite among vintage GM truck buyers because of its simple design, adequate power and excellent durability. A petite Rochester carburetor and old school oil bath air cleaner combine with an AC fuel bowl, a tagged Delco-Remy generator, Fenton exhaust manifolds and fresh plug wires to keep the engine clean and functional. And items like satin fenders, a bold Thriftmaster decal, a red-capped oil canister and traditional blue skin ensure the mill is very impressive to look at.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Slide under this rig and you'll find a relatively fresh undercarriage that's hardly weathered at all. Solid floors frame a Satin Black chassis, which appears to be mostly factory-spec. At the center of those bones, a familiar Saginaw 3-speed funnels torque through a reliable 10-bolt axle. Old school manual steering makes quick work of turns while power assisted discs and drums bring everything to a halt. The aforementioned manifolds dumps spent gases in to true-dual pipes, which employ thin, glasspack-style mufflers. And a tough stance is achieved by 15-inch Chevrolet Rally Wheels, which spin 255/70 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts around stainless trim rings and smoothie center caps.

INTERIOR

Despite their ornate styling, '50s trucks weren't exactly known for luxurious interiors. And, in fact, simplistic digs are key to their timeless appeal. This Chevy's heated cockpit is centered on a broad bench seat that wears a svelte combination of gray and Charcoal vinyl. Below that seat, fade-free carpet floats thick Goodyear mats between Kenwood kick speakers. Above that carpet, body-matched doors found small Charcoal panels behind traditional chrome handles. Those panels perfectly match a pliable headliner that's fronted by crack-free sun visors. And at the front of the cockpit, a satin-spoke steering wheel laps a stylish dash that's finished with rebuilt telemetry, Sunpro accessory gauges and a remote-controlled, MP3-compatible Retrosound stereo.

When it comes to style, durability and sheer Americana, nothing beats a good old GM workhorse.
