A beautiful classic Convertible from 1963, Chevrolet Impala with red on red color combination. This car was largely one owner, lady, rom 1963 to her passing in 1999, hen bequeathed to her daughter. She sold the car to a family friend in 2006. I purchased it in 2007 and have owned it since. From the documentation I do have, nd by the way the car drives, his car is a relative low mileage vehicle at 67,477.Most of the car is original, he 327 250hp motor, he Powerglide two speed transmission, nd the differential, ut have made a few changes to improve safety and to a lesser extent performance. Here is list of improvements (in my opinion) I have done to the car:
- Just installed a new set of tires, ast week. These are whitewalls from Hankook, 205/75/14. (I must admit, oing from the Michelin blackwalls to these dresses the car up.)
- Replaced the Rochester 4GC with an Edelbrock 1406 with an electric choke.
- Upgraded the intake manifold to an Edelbrock to match the Edelbrock carburetor.
- Upgraded original points distributor to a modern pointless Mallory.
- Upgraded the safety of the braking system by going from the single cylinder master cylinder to a dual cylinder from Classic Performance Products. In so doing, he brakes are now Power Brakes.
- Upgraded the Air Cleaner to a K&N.
- Replaced the gas tank.
- Replaced all wear related suspension parts. Shocks replaced with KYB, all joints, ushings, lave cylinder, tc.
- Replaced original ragtop plus top boot and all parts associated with raising the top. Hydraulic motor, ydraulic lifting cylinders, oses, tc.
- Replaced the original Delco AM only radio, ith modern AM/FM/USB type. Can use an iPod. Replaced speakers with Kenwood in stock locations.
- Original electric clock is now a quartz movement. The face looks exactly the same in the dash.
- Entire stock muffler system has been replaced in stainless steel.
- Replaced both interior door panels with new reproductions. They look perfectly original and were priced accordingly.
- Replaced the carpet.
- Replaced the heater core.
- Replaced the water pump, lternator, elts, oses, erviced (rodded) the original Harrison radiator.
- Replaced u-hoints, enter support bearing, nd rechecked the balance of the driveshaft.
- Replaced the fuel pump, uel lines.
- Replaced the outside bearings (where the rear wheels are) of the differential, he original ones were making some noise when I bought the car.
Have almost all of the original parts that I had removed; intake manifold, ochester 4GC carburetor, hoke linkage, elco radio, ire jack, pare, nd air cleaner box. Missing the original master brake cylinder, nd the original distributor. For the ambitious, have sourced some original parts for a factory "Deluxe All-Weather Air Conditioning System" look. I have the center metal duct piece, he lower dash part in red for the center duct, nd both factor side vents. These parts are not perfect, ut can be cleaned up to look fine. The circular holes wold have to be drilled for the side vents. One company makes a unit that goes under the dash that uses the original AC/heater controls. I never got around to this project, nd it is invasive. This car was assembled in Southgate CA from the "L" in the VIN. The 327 engine was assembled in Tonawanda NY from the code. All the codes I could see are correct to the time period. I could not see any code numbers on the Powerglide though.Other important details that should be mentioned; The cooling system seems to do its job on this car. Have had the car in bad traffic on a hot night, nd it did well. At some point, he original owner or heirs did a major or minor overhaul of the engine. The compressions of the cylinders are good and uniform all around, bout 180 psi if I remember correctly. This engine does not burn oil. On a drive from Las Vegas to Anaheim CA, averaged 17 mpg, hich seems pretty good for a carbureted V8 and a heavy car. I am uncertain if the cylinder heads have been "hardened" which allows one to burn unleaded fuel. I have been using unleaded premium for the six thousand miles that I have driven the car. When the pan for the Aluminum Powerglide was off, he mechanic thought the transmission had been overhauled in the past. The gears on this Powerglide are 1.76 for 1st, nd of course, .00 for 2nd. The differential is 3.08.If you have questions about the car, ou can call me at 214-417-1202 between 4-9 PST. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION.
