Car description |
---|
Listed for sale is a 1971 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS. To be clear this isNOT a numbers matching original car and nowhere is that implied. The cowl tag states that it's a red with black standard interior car and the VIN states that it's a V8 car but that is all.It has had acomplete nut and boltROTISSERIE RESTORATION that took 2 1/2 yearswith no expense spared. It is equipped with a big block 396 with 4 speed transmission and 12 bolt rear end. This car is as strong as they get with a rock solid body and proven performance with it achieving either show car or performance car status. I will break down the car in the following sections:
Body
As mentioned this car has received a rotisserie restoration withthe subframe being removed andthe body being acid dipped to remove any rust. The car was mostly solid but did require a floor pan and was replaced with a one piece floor pan. Once the repair work was done it was completely e-coated to insure future rust would bevirtually impossible. Next it was assembled with new fenders, ront facia, nd hood. This car is equipped with the Rally Sport package so it has the correct urethane nose, ound parking lamps, plit grille and bumperettes. After all panels were lined up to make the gaps correct it was then primed and blocked multiple times to get the body straight. The undercarriage and inner fender wells were shot with a light Rhino lining coatingto make the car actually driveable. The trunk was sprayed with factory aqua splatter paint for an original look. It was shot with a factory GM color which is Monza Red then clear coated and finally buffed to a mirror shine. The color is actually a '70 Corvette color and not the usual Cranberry Red that was much darker. The tail panel was painted the correct semi-glossblackto indicate a big block. All lighting front to back is new. All the glass is new.All weatherstriping is new. The glass trim is the original but has been polished out. The emblems and rear bumper are new. The rocker panel trim is new and on and on...
Subframe/Mechanical
The subframe was removed and was cleaned and powder coated semi-gloss black. All the bushings were replaced with new rubber. The disc brakes and all steering and suspension components were either replaced or rebuilt to insure the car was mechanically sound. Also everything was painted and finished to look as new. The front &rear springs are Hotchkis suspension with a 2 inch drop to give the car a lower stance. Also it has Hotchkis subframe connectors to keep the big block torque in check. This car has power steering and power brakes with new brake booster. It has a new fuel tank and sending unit with new fuel lines and new fuel pump. A new factory style wiring harness was also installed throughout the car.
Engine
Most don't know that a big block engine was available in 2nd generation Camaros through 1972. This one has a 1969 coded big block 396 that has been rebuilt. It has approximately 500 miles since being done. It was bored 30 over and then received new high compression pistons. It has a comp cam and lifters that are mildly aggressive. The heads are cast iron but were gone through and machined. It has an aluminum intake with a 750 Holley HP carb and Hedman headers that finish up with Flowmaster exhaust. The car has approximately 425 hp. Very stout but very streetable. It is cooled with a new 4 core aluminum radiator.
Transmission
Nothing handles Chevy muscle better than a Muncie M22"rock crusher"4 speed and this is what is in this car. The transmission was professionally rebuilt with a more streetable 1st gear than a typical close ratiobut retainsthe toughness of the best 4 speedtransmission ever made. It is changed by a Hurst competition plus shifter with centerforce 11in clutch and pressure plate.
Rear End
The original 10 bolt was scrapped and in its replacement is a new Moser 12 bolt rear end. This is the Muscle Pak setup that includes 3.73 gears and Tru-Trac posi-traction. It has factory style rear drum brakes. The Moser 12 bolt is the best rear end that you can buy for a Chevy.
Interior
It is equipped with black standard interior. All the soft interior isbrand new except for the factory seats which were recovered. The headliner, oor panels, ide panels, ick panels, entsare new. The carpet and sound deadener are new.The console is new. Thedash panel and pad are new. The gauge cluster is refurbished with 150 MPH speedo, actory tach, uel gauge, mmeter, emp and clock. The radio is a new Custom Audiosound deck that looks old but acts new, lso it has new Kenwood dash speakers. The steering column was rebuilt and has a refurbished 4 spoke sport steering wheel. Everything in this car worksexcept for the clock and ammeter.
Miscelleneous Equipment
It rolls on new BF Goodrich RadialTA tires with 235s on the front and 255s out back. The wheels are original Z28 style wheels that have been refurbished and fitted with new trim rings and centers. It has the spoiler package with frontair damand the small one piece Z28 style spoiler on the rear instead of the other larger 3 piece spoiler.
I'm sure there are some things I forgot to include in this description but as you can see this car was done right and done expensively. You don't find many 2nd generation Camaros like this that have been so painstakingly gone through like this one to make it truly a collector car that will doing nothing but appreciate over time. I have a photo album with100 pictures of the restoration from day 1until it was completed. I also have a mountain of receipts frommostofthe partspurchased. If you have any questions please callScott at 434-489-1252 and I will gladly tell you any details you want. Also please remember to bid only if you are willing and able to purchase this car. Thanks for your inquiry.
