Car description |
---|
Extremely Rare 1986 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe. This is car #198 of only 200 Aerocoupes produced in 1986.
Background on the '86 Aerocoupe Model
After being dominated by Bill Elliott's Ford Thunderbird on the NASCAR superspeedways in 1985, he engineers at Chevrolet went to work trying to find a way to make the Monte Carlo SS more aerodynamic. The goal was to regain supremacy on the big tracks. Their answer was the 1986 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe. The Aerocoupe sports a redesigned rear window and decklid to provide far more rear downforce at speed. The sleek new design paid immediate dividends. In it's very first race out Geoff Bodine won the 1986 Daytona 500 driving a Hendrick Motorsports prepared Aerocoupe. In order to race this car on the track, ASCAR mandated that at least 200 street examples be sold to the public. Chevy produced exactly this number, eleasing them exclusively to the following markets to coincide with NASCAR races at Daytona, harlotte, tlanta and Talladega:- Jacksonville, uantity: 70 cars
- Charlotte, uantity: 70 cars
- Atlanta, uantity: 30 cars
- Birmingham, uantity: 30 cars
Each car began life as a regular 1986 Monte Carlo SS coupe, efore being sent from the production line in Arlington, exas to Cars and Concepts in Michigan to receive the Aerocoupe makeover. Each of the 200 produced is absolutely identical in color and options. Only 105 are documented to still exist, aking this model perhaps the toughest to find of all 1980's American cars.
Condition
This particular car was produced in May of 1986 and was converted by Cars and Concepts in June of that year. It was sold new in July of '86 at Ferman Motor Car Company in Tampa, lorida. The previous owner purchased the car in Illinois in 2000 as a rust free driver and spent several years restoring it to the absolutely fantastic condition that it is in today. The car has been disassembled and painted (I have pictures) and OEM GM stripes have been painstakingly reapplied. The exterior of the car presents beautifully in its original white color. All interior fabric and carpet has been replaced and shows as a new car would. The dashboard, auge cluster and console are all in spectacular condition. The original am/fm cassette stereo was removed and rebuilt to perfect working condition. The air conditioning is not currently working. I had a new AC Delco accumulator installed and the system was blowing cold air, owever, he seals need to be redone in order for it to hold refrigerant.
The underside of the car is also in excellent condition. The exhaust has been replaced to factory specifications. In June of 2015 I had the steering and front suspension completely gone through and the car aligned, mounting to about $1,200 worth of work. It steers like a dream now! This car is also sporting extremely rare, eriod correct Goodyear Eagle GT tires. These tires have quite a bit of tread on them and the car shows exactly as it would have when new with them on.Under the hood, he car is absolutely gorgeous. The hood pad has been replaced and the engine detailed to factory specifications. The car currently has a nearly new Sears Diehard battery in it, owever, more original looking AC Delco battery goes with it that likely has charge remaining.
I have extensive paperwork that comes with the car, ncluding the following:
· Original window sticker that has been laminated for protection
· Several reproduction window stickers for shows
· The original build sheet for the car
· Original owners manual
· Show display board with copies of Chevy press release announcing the new Aerocoupe model
· Several magazines from 1986-present that highlight the Aerocoupe model
· It also comes with a custom car cover with "Aerocoupe" embroidered on it
This is a fantastic opportunity for a serious Chevrolet collector and/or NASCAR fan to add an outstanding example of perhaps the lowest production American passenger car of the 1980's. If you can even find one, don't believe you could not purchase a lesser '86 Aerocoupe and bring it to this condition for what I am asking. Far more than the asking price has been invested to bring it to this point. I have a clear Ohio title to the car in my name. The title states the mileage is actual, ut I can't verify that for certain as the car is nearly 30 years old, f which I have owned it for the last 2 1/2. I do know that most people are stunned if they see the odometer, ost think that it is a super low mileage car. Buyer to provide a $500 deposit through Paypal within 24 hours of listing end and pay the balance within 7 days. If paying by cashiers check, he car will be released to the buyer once funds clear my bank. This car is being sold "As-Is" with no warranties or guarantees of any kind. If you would like to see the car in person I am located in the Canton, hio area and would be more than happy to set up a time to check it out. Please call/text me at 513-310-Zero Seven One One with any questions or to set up a meeting. I never thought that I would sell this car, owever, will be reacquiring the 1987 Monte SS that was my first car at age 16 and simply don't have the storage space for everything. ClicPicDeluxe
