Car description |
---|
1958 Chevrolet 3100 series four wheel drive pickup truck. Model number 3154 designates factory 4x4. Older restoration of an original Colorado truck. Originally a ranch truck from around Telluride Colorado. Factory installed NAPCO 4x4 system with aftermarket Selectro lockout hubs. NAPCO kits were used on Chevrolet pickups until 1960 when GM came out with their own four wheel drive system. In 1958 you could order it from the factory or have the dealer up fit your truck. Factory4x4 trucks had 7 leaf springs in front and 8 leaf springs in the rear. They also had a 5600 GVW rating.
This truck has the original drive train with the exception that it has been repowered with a V8 at some point. The V8 code shows it is supposedly a Chevrolet 327. I'm not sure.It has dual exhausts and headers. It still retains the original drum brakes with an after market power booster added for better braking. The brakes are touchy and it stops quickly.
New stuff:
Four new powder coated Wheelsmith 16 inch wheels. All new lug nuts. Four new radial tires. Four new reproduction hubcaps. New clutch. New powerdrum brake booster. New tail lights.Recent Optima battery. New rear pinion seal. New fluids. New battery tray. Recent reupholstered seat with lap belts. Other small parts to numerous to mention. It has a late model AM/FM stereoradio designed to fit in the original dash and it works.
Overall Condition:
This is not a show truck! It is a nice old daily driver. I bought it from a man who claims he was the second owner. He took pretty good care of the truck. Truck runs drives and stops very well. It will go 60 mph plus down the highway. The previous owner drove it all over southwest Colorado pulling a small fishing boat.
Paint is what I would call a thirty footer at best. It should be repainted to be really nice. I was able to bring the shine back using the three step Maguires system with help from their tech line. It looks good as a work truck but has numerous scratches, ome scrapes, ock chips etc. The rear fender have stone pings from driving on rural gravel roads. See photo. The tailgate is aftermarket and appears to have been painted without a proper primer so the paint is chipping. See photo. Bed could use new wood and new strips but is serviceable as is. All the lights and gauges work. Four wheel drive works although I have not used it off road. It has the original NAPCO front axle and Spicer 23 transfer case. Transfer case tag show it was rebuilt at some point by Stewart and Stevinson in Grand Junction Colorado. Interior paint is flaking in spots but the interior is nice overall and has a new rubber floor matand rubber brake and clutch pedal pads.
I have had several of these trucks and I think I have it priced fairly for what it is. Clear Colorado title in my name. Truck stays here until funds clear. Wheels laying in truck bed are not included in sale. I can store it while you arrange shipping. Sold as is where is with no warranties implied or expressed.
Update 09/01/15: I have had some questions. Yes it will go over 60 mph. It's pretty fast for an old truck. I just feel comfortable driving it at that speed since its an old truck. It does not have any rust issues that I can see.The wheels are powder coated. It does not have power steering. It does have the 5600 GVW plate on the door frame. It has been painted over but you can see the 5600 GVW stamp.
