This car was originally a small block 350/350 car, old with brown interior, s, b, c, nd a 10 bolt. The great thing about this car is that it has all its original metal. It is completely rust free, ncluding the rust free floor and trunk pan. The quarter panels and doors are all original. The panel gap is excellent. The car was purchased new in Arizona, nd the original Arizona title is included. The car has always been garaged, nd since the restoration it has never seen rain. A frame-off restoration has been completed over a +10-year timeframe. A 1970 LS6 SS Chevelle donated its dash and 12 bolt rearend housing which now contains an Auburn positrac and 3.42 gears. The SS dash contains all the correct gauges and all of them work, ut the clock does not. It originally had a bench seat, ut it now has Procar Elite bucket seats. Another nice feature is that Scat/Procar made me a one-off custom rear seat using the same materials and stitching patterns that the front buckets have. The TMI console is made of the same materials used on the door panels, ncluding the matching chrome strip. The paint is a two-stage urethane. The vinyl stripes were clear coated and wet sanded for a flush feel. There are a couple small pin-hole size chips on the driver's door, ut this is still a show quality paint job. Because the car is not numbers matching, did take the liberty to dress it up, or example painting the inner fenders and the bottom of the hood gloss black, nstead of the factory satin. Because the trunk paint was in such good shape, left it, artially to show off how good the car originally was before the restoration, nd also because it simply did not need repainting.
The engine has been rebuilt and uses iron heads that have been ported. The engine is topped off with Edelbrock Performer intake and carb, nd it runs amazing. The cam has enough lift to provide a nice mean idle, ut it is no overly dramatic and it is very driveable. The quick shifting TCI 400 Turbo makes for a great combination that has no trouble roasting the tires in any gear. There is plenty of chrome dress up items, ncluding: air cleaner, alve covers, an, lternator bracket, ooster, aster cylinder, hermostat housing, adiator cover, nd the pulleys.
I made some restoration decisions that I would like to clarify. I did go back with original GM exhaust manifolds instead of headers, his was a conscience choice because headers are hard to maneuver in the engine compartment, nd replacing gaskets, common occurrence, s problematic. Also, did not put SS emblems on the sides because I couldn't bring myself to drill into the virgin quarter panels. Additionally, did not put the ac back on the car because it clutters the engine bay, nd frankly they too often require maintenance simply not justified by the rare use. I did keep the column shift, hich is very precise, nd shifts easy with both hands on the wheel, on't knock it until you try it.
I have been working on cars and restoring them for the last 25 years. The following is an assessment of the major components, sing a 1-5 rating system. (1=perfect, =excellent/very good, =good/driver quality, =ok/restorable, =poor). The car overall is a solid 2. With beautiful paint, resh big block engine, nd new interior, his is a show quality car.
