Two Wheel Drive 3/4-ton Chevy Crew Cab Pick-Up Truck. Former Forest Service truck bought in Florida in 2004. I used this truck as my daily driver for years, nd for towing my off-road truck to parks and such, nd to do chores, tc.. Now it gets borrowed much more than I drive it and has fallen into a bit of disrepair. I've got so many other vehicles to work on, don't need to work on this one in order to keep my knuckles busted and profanity sharp. This truck is like the pork chop you tie around your neck so your dog will play with you. Because of it, have more friends than I need.Runs great, hifts great, ough old truck will pull or haul anything. Front bucket seats are aftermarket, enter console/ jump seat from a 2010 F450, ear seat from a 2010 Ford van sits 4 across. I had to upgrade as my family grew. I made the mounts for the seats and my kids rode in them for years. The rear shoulder belts are anchored to the pillar with a big washer behind them. It only had lap belts when new. Has a nice Sony deck, nd speakers in a box behind the rear seat, nd in the dash. It comes with a Prodigy brake controller. It has a B&W turn-over ball goose neck hitch. It also has a Draw Tite Ultra Frame hitch under the bumper with a 10,000/12,000 rating. The original 6.2 diesel has a Banks turbo kit on it (10 years ago) and it all works very well. It makes about 10psi of boost. No smoke other than the little white puff at start-up. The engine uses no oil between changes, hich are done at 2,500 miles. Good thing is, nlike my Powerstroke, he 6.2 only needs 7 quarts instead of 15, o it works out the same. Engine in great shape. I put a new Powermaster 140amp alternator on it a couple years ago--not a remanufactured one. I also added the Gear Vendors auxillary tranny which allows split shifting like a 2-speed rear end, nd gives it an over drive. 14-bolt full float in the rear with 4.10 gears and a Detroit Locker. The transmission is the TH400, hich I believe is the best automatic ever made. I added a good fuel filter/ waterseparatorand threw out the bad factory one, nd added an electric boost pump. The truck has 2x 20 gallon tanks. It used to be able to get 20mpg empty. It might do that again with the injector pump freshened up and new nozzles. Runs good now, hough. Now the bad:-It started to get some rust a couple of years ago. Under the doors and cab corners mainly. A few other spots.-Dash pad/top is gone. I don't even know that it had one when I got the truck. Too long ago. Didn't care about the ugly.- Has an injector pump shaft seal leak. Really, t's mostly a winter issue. I believe the seal shrinks in the cold and lets air in, hich makes is a bear to start because you have to crank all the air through the pump. I replaced the seal ten years ago when I put the Banks kit on it and it's not too tough--have to take the intake manifold off. At this age, hough, would put on a remanufactured pump--they are pretty cheap.-This truck used to have functioning air conditioning. The pump locked up and the next time I had to change the belts, just wired it out of the way on the fender. The fact is, his truck has hydro-boost brakes so the brakes and steering are powered both by the same 1/2" belt. That belt needs adjustment a few times a year and the air conditioning made it tough as it sat right over the steering pump. I don't know where the brackets for it went and I have since moved so there is no chance I will be able to find them. The system has never been opened so I think it would be pretty easy to find brackets and get it working again. It was not my desire to air condition the people that borrow my truck.-I caught the bed with my gooseneck trailer a few years ago and bent one side out a few inches so there is a gap on one side of the tailgate. As tempting as it has been, have not tried to push it back in with a nudge of the track loader.-Truck uses a little coolant and always has. I don't know where it goes as it is not in the oil. It has just always done this. I put a new aluminum radiator on it a number of years ago thinking there was a tiny leak in the radiator, ut it just didn't make a difference. I just top it up once in a while when I think about it. My best guess it it goes out a vent in the over-flow cap. It's not a problem, ust a characteristic.-Battery cables are kind of a mess. I had a pair of side and top terminal batteries in there so I was using both side and top terminals to hook it up. Now it has top-only terminals and some cables are on there half-arsed or not at all.-Dirty outside and needs vacuuming inside. Never washed in 11 years. I didn't want to ruin the patina and have those guys in the pawn shop tv show looking over the tops of their glasses at me.-The steering link idler might be showing some wear, hough I haven't wanted to grab and shake the greasy thing. It just feels a little worn when driving it. It steers well and goes down the road straight, ut it would be worth checking it out soon.-I have never peeked at the condition of the brakes in 11 years of ownership. The feel like maybe they could use some attention, hough it doesn't scrape or make noise. Just not quite as crisp as it once was. Also, nce it a while after the truck has been sitting, hen you first drive it and touch the brake pedal, he rear will lock. After a few times of doing that, t starts being smooth again. I don't know the cause, ut it needs investigation at some point. There are undoubtedly more little issues, ut really, ou could use the truck the way it is if you had to. I know this because that's what I do.I have the tailgate, t's just not on the truck. It's in good shape without rust. The truck floors are not rusted out--they are dirty and have surface rust only. The bottom of the truck has surface rust but is solid.I might help you get this truck by throwing a motorcycle in the back and driving it somewhere. Ask me.
