Once in a while a special car comes along, he kind that you'll regret not buying for the rest of your life. For some, his 1968 Camaro RS is such a car. Bred in California and treated to a comprehensive restoration two years ago, t's one of the straightest, leanest, nd most appealing F-bodies we've ever offered. If you've wanted something other than a Hugger Orange SS clone, his neat little RS will fill the bill. You certainly don't see many Island Teal Camaros running around, ut code F is, ndeed, his car's original color. And now that you've seen it, ou're probably wondering the same thing we are: why don't people love this color? It's sophisticated yet sporty, ncapsulating the Camaro's mission perfectly. And while '68s are notoriously difficult to authenticate, here's no reason to believe that this is a fake RS and to be honest, t's really nice to see it without a cowl induction hood or SS badges where they don't belong. The shell was stripped to bare metal and refinished from there after all the steel was smooth and straight. Two-stage urethane was used to get that super-deep finish and impossible shine, nd they put in some long hours getting it all lined up just right. Add in a correct black stripe around the nose and a code Z black vinyl top and you have a great-looking Camaro that stands out without being just like all the rest. Oh, nd all the chrome and stainless is freshly restored or replaced, o it glitters against the shiny new paint. The all-black interior was also completely restored from top to bottom, sing nothing but correct reproduction parts and materials. The low-back seats are correct, s this car was built before the federal headrest mandate, nd with a center console, t definitely has that appealing Camaro cockpit. Original instruments look great, nd are augmented by a set of period Stewart Warner accessory gauges down on the console. The horseshoe shifter controls a 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission, s original, nd it's amazing what just that little bit of woodgraining does to warm up the interior. Even the factory AM radio remains in the dash, testament to the restorer's desire to get this car right. The trunk is nicely finished with spatter paint, nd it does come with what appears to be the original spare tire and jack assembly.During the restoration, 350 cubic inch crate motor was dropped in and dressed up to look exactly like the original 327. Now making a very robust 290 horsepower and 332 pounds of torque, his Camaro has moves that the original owner could only have dreamed about. Correct valve covers, ir cleaner, ecals, nd Chevy Orange paint make it a very convincing illusion under the hood, nd even the tall oil filler was included for authenticity. Without checking numbers, t's unlikely anyone will ever know why this RS is so darned quick. The PowerGlide feeds a correct 10-bolt rear end and you'll note that the chassis is just as well-detailed as the engine bay. A new exhaust system, resh gas tank, nd new lines and hoses ensure that it's ready, illing, nd able to go anywhere. Racy Torque Thrust wheels are a popular look that suits the Camaro rather well, nd they sport 225/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials.Documented with the original Protect-O-Plate and complete with a custom car cover, his is a wonderful, resh Camaro that's just enough different to make it stand out. They just don't get much nicer. Call today!
