Earth Motorcars is proud to offer for sale this stunning 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 409.The Chevrolet Impala is an automobile built by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. Ed Cole, hevrolet's chief engineer in the late 1950s, efined the Impala as a "prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen." For many years, he Impala was the best selling automobile in the United States, nd its 1965 sales of over one million units still stands as a record. The 409 was the Impala's muscle car.
Chevrolet’s third generation Impala is a stylish piece that, ith its absence of excessive chrome, uggests GM had officially left the tailfin-induced bender America enjoyed throughout the ‘50s. At the front of this sleek showboat, broad stainless grille hangs four halogen headlights and small amber parking lamps between an ornate Chevrolet crest, blocky “CHEVROLET” script and a mirrored, raparound bumper. At the top of that grille, ubtle hood spears lead the eye to tinted glass that’s cleared by bright wipers, ealed in straight frames a capped with a power-operated roof. At the sides of that hood, ent-free rocker guards, ptional fender skirts and engine-turned, S-specific trim spears found bold “IMPALA” scripts beneath traditional cross-flag emblems and “SS” quarter badging. Opposite those guards, orrect door handles and classy bowtie mirrors perfectly complement optional edge liners, rnate fuel filler trim and angled antennas. And at the back of the car, stainless-trimmed, ngine-turned valence hangs six familiar taillights between a second Chevrolet crest, small “CHEVROLET” script and a second wraparound bumper.
In the early days of America’s horsepower wars, hevy’s stalwart 409 was arguably the go-to choice for most racers. There was simply nothing else on the road that could touch its street-ruling horsepower. And that made cars like this sculpted drop-top feared and equally revered. At the top of its “QC” branded mill, polished, ingle-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to a coated Edelbrock carburetor, ne look under this sturdy cruiser reveals a solid X-frame chassis that’s just as ready for the road as that legendary 409. Torque meets the pavement through a correct 4-speed, hich spins a factory rear end
With a clean restoration, ully sorted mechanicals and more style than pretty much anything on the road, his national award-winning Impala literally defines the term “strong value”.
