1948 Cadillac SERIES 62 CONVERTIBLE BARRIS CUSTOM
This classically customized 1948 Cadillac Series 62 convertible is a unique creation from the fertile mind of Hollywood’s “King of the Kustomizers” George Barris.
While Barris is best known as the creator of such movie and TV cars as the Munster Coach the Batmobile and the Green Hornet’s Black Beauty he first made his reputation working with his brother Sam in their Lynwood California garage located in Los Angeles County. Demand for the Barris Brothers’ work was rising even before George graduated from high school and magazine publicity drew customers from across the country. A one-owner car until 2014 this Barris-customized Cadillac was purchased new in February 1948 in Lincoln Nebraska. That’s a long way from Los Angeles but sometime around 1959 it was later delivered to Barris for the custom treatment. Major work began by channelling the body to lower it over the frame. Lowering the suspension and chopping the windshield frame and convertible top by 2.5 inches further reduced the car’s height. Pie cutting was used to recontour the fenders hood and trunk lid and the custom front fenders were fitted with 1959 Chevrolet Impala headlights. The updated engine and driveline comprise a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado 390 CI engine backed by a Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission and 3.88:1 rear end. The interior received the Barris touch as well incorporating a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado dash a tilt steering column and Red leather upholstery. Finished with custom Candy Burgundy paint and a White convertible top this Barris-built custom Cadillac is a natural for any collection of vehicles from the golden age of the “Kustom Kulture.” FEATURES: -One of a kind custom by George Barris- Purchased new in February 1948 in Lincoln Nebraska- Later delivered to Barris Customs in Lynwood California for custom conversion- Channeled frame and lowered suspension- 1959 Cadillac Eldorado 390 CI engine- Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission- 3.88 rear end- Leaded bodywork- Buick fender wells- 1959 Chevrolet Impala headlights- Custom front fenders- Pie cut fenders deck lid and hood- 2.5 inch chopped roof and windshield- 1959 Cadillac Eldorado dash- Custom Candy Burgundy paint- Custom Red leather interior- White convertible top- Certificate of Authenticity from George Barris Kustom
