Car description

1967 Cadillac DeVille Convertible. This car has been in storage since 2008. I bought this car back in 1993 and drove it around town in the summers once in a while for almost 15 years. It is not in good condition. I had a lot of fun driving around in this car but then life circumstances changed and it just sat in my driveway until I put it in this garage in 2008 since I never drove it. I jump started it last week for the first time in 6 years and with a little starter fluid it started after cranking for a few minutes. The car starts and runs. It idles shockingly well for being as old as it is and having sat for so long. I recall having the carb rebuilt around 15 years ago. No noticeable exhaust leaks. No significant oil or transmission leaks. (The engine oil level and transmission fluid appear to have normal levels even after sitting for 6 years). I had to add water/antifreeze that was low but not empty before I started it. I let it run for about 15 minutes and it got up to operating temperature with no problem. The temperature gauge moved up to where it used to sit all the time and there were no leaks or smells. It smoked a little when it first ran mostly off the engine itself since small oil leaks were burning off the engine I would presume. The brake fluid was gone in the rear portion of master cylinder when I opened it - so I put in more. Back brakes still don't seem to work. Car has 4 wheel power drum brakes. Engine runs smoothly. On short drives in parking lot transmission shifts normally in Drive and Reverse and appears to change gears from 1st to 3rd. Power steering works. Brakes work but back brakes have lost fluid. Pedal goes to floor but brakes will stop the car. AC belt is missing (always has been since "93) but heater and defrost will work if you wiggle control. Radio works intermittently if you pound on dash. Lights seem to work including tail lights and brake lights. Even the automatic high low headlight sensor switches the lights from high to low when it senses oncoming lights. Power top does not work. It used to but I disconnected the motor and operated it manually for years when I drove it. It is really heavy but one person standing on the back seat can lift it out of well when it is down. The steering has always been loose but not dangerous. The tires actually look pretty good. The seats (especially the front seats have huge tears and missing foam. The car was originally a metallic green/gold color and I had the rust holes fixed using body filler and had it painted the burgundy (supposedly a factory color but not the original color of this car). The body work was never great so every panel will need work to repaint it. The paint was done around 1995. The rust has returned badly in some areas especially under one front fender. The convertible top is 20 years old but does not have any big holes. The back window keeps falling out and is held in with duct tape and a piece of wood. Power windows mostly work but need help going up. Power seat works if you wiggle the switch. Speedometer seems to work. Mileage is original to my knowledge. I have an Ohio Title in my name I can sign over to buyer. I am not a dealer or reseller of cars. I really hope somebody who buys it could restore it and enjoy it. They definitely don't make them like this any more. This car is a boat!THIS CAR COULD BE DRIVABLE WITH MODERATE WORK BUT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY RESTORED. MAYBE A PARTS CAR OR TOTAL RESTORATION? Just don't tell me if you will use it for parts because I am hoping it will live on and continue to be driven and enjoyed. CAR IS SOLD AS IS. IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH A MAJOR PROJECT THEN THIS CAR IS NOT FOR YOU. Please don't buy it if you intend to drive it home unless you can fix the brakes first because I am worried the brakes are not safe. Thanks. Questions are welcome. I can also make a cell phone video of it starting and running if you send me your number I can send it to you.
