Car description |

This 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special is special indeed. It is quite possibly the most original one on the market right now. Loaded. Never messed with. It was owned by one man and his son. The father was a Cadillac salesman in Johnstown, PA. He bought the car the day his son was born in 1962. His son sold it to me out of the estate. It is currently at our garage in Central PA getting a good dose of love and attention to make sure it's ready to go.
From the 390 V8 3-speed automatic transmission + CDI engine to the color matching front seat trash can, this vehicle is 95% original, including the stock radial spare in the perfectly maintained trunk. The compression on this car is strong and the engine runs smooth through all 3 gears with zero smoke in idle after 15 minutes.
PW, PS, PL + Power seats, Autronic Eye automatic headlight dimmer, AM radio (original) with FM conversion (stock). Power everything works. And...the stock first cruise control for Cadillac. And, stock air conditioning.
The interior is a 9/10. Original everything including the perfect headliner. Original hubs. Personal rear seat reading lights. Four smoker/ashtray stations -- never used. Rear seat hand rails. No tears or rips to be found. Non-smoker. The car showed 55,000 miles on the title when the father died and the son inherited. So, 7,000 miles since 1993 when the car was stored in a heated garage. It has had occasional maintenance according to previous owner and the undercarriage shows no issues.
What does it need? Power steering gear box and some brake work...which we will do if Buy It Now. I have the PS gear box and will include. That's "a $400 value.
The head gasket is fine, though we were going to put some Red Devil in for good measure. And maybe a new seal. Oil changed, no mice...ever.
All headlights and tail lights work. Horn works. Drives straight. Dent in rear trunk hood. Box fell on it a few years ago. Very easy fix. Some chrome pitting and paint surface rust, but nothing too noticeable or bad AT ALL.
Again, undercarriage is in good shape and properly oiled and lubed. Nothing needed there. All critical frame elements and posts are solid.
Hagerty Value lists this car at $20k+: https://www.hagerty.com/apps/valuationtools/1962-Cadillac-Fleetwood_60_Special
Here is another '62 Fleetwood (not this car or 60 Special for that matter) rolling down the boulevard at night: https://youtu.be/U3rUtBm1Qxk. These cars are cruising marshmallows. So damn comfortable. They have the "three bounce" (my term) suspension for the rough road and in our test drive, we don't believe the forward or rear springs need replaced, but that may be a matter of opinion. They certainly don't need replaced to drive and enjoy.
Oh...and it is fast. We had it up to 75 with no shimmy at all. Quiet too.
Don Draper would be proud. This is a classic now and the last of the great engineered Caddy cars. Their space age look and feel fits the celebration of Apollo 11 and the 1960s attention to detailed engineering that GM had going until (I would say) 1977. Incredible car.
Again: The interior is just AMAZING!! And that is the most sought after aspect of these cars. A clean and original interior. Even the reading lights work. There are many out there, but I will put this interior up against ANY of them. I have the original Owner's Manual and Shop Book as well.
This is a Reserve Auction. If you have questions, please ask in advance. I will answer them as quickly as possible. I have done my best to give an honest appraisal of the car and what needs done in our view. Therefore, it is sold as is, but a very strong as is. The car is for sale locally and headed to a car meet/show July 18 in Central PA. Could sell either place. Best of luck and thanks for looking.
