Car description |
---|
We're listing our venerable old convertible, time to reduce fleet size a bit. This car is an honest, unmolested driver that is great for both sunny cruising and rainy cold days. The paint is terrible but it shines up decently with wax if you have the aptitude. We cruise this car weekly with the car seats and kids aboard, and it goes on occasional road trips too.
This Caddy runs fantastic. It starts reliably even after being stored. The 500 V8 (8.2L) makes tons of power and runs smoothly hot or cold. Transmission (HT400) shifts flawlessly. The interior is decent. Dash is ok except for a damaged corner near driver door. There's a poorly repaired crack in driver armrest. Leather is worn and tired but soft. No rips or tears. Carpet is good. T he top is new. One of the cross-bows in the top has a bad joint but top still works.
Suspension and brakes great. New front brake pads, rotors and shocks. Front half shafts and CV joints are new, and are the high-quality OEM joints and boots. Heat works great. A/C actually holds a charge and blows cold but only out of defroster—something wrong with the climate control. New 80-amp alternator. New dry-cell battery. New gear-reduction starter—anyone who knows these old Cadillac 500 engines knows they have hot start problems due to starter overheating. The gear reduction starter eliminates that issue. It's the HD starter that GMC motor home enthusiasts use.
There's no rust except for a marble-sized spot on the rear left quarter above the fender skirt. The car was repainted probably 30 years ago and it has failed and then been touched up badly over the years...just trying to be honest. But we bought this car to cruise in Cadillac style with our family and not worry about door dings or Cheerios on the carpet. The Delco radio has been replaced with a digital OE-style resto-mod unit that has iPod connectivity.
All power windows work. Power door locks are intermittent. Power seat works. Remote trunk release works but not auto pull-down feature. Auto parking brake release works. All interior & exterior lighting is fine. All gauges work.
I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere but please call me with questions. This car is a mile wide and a mile long, and if you have no experience with old Cadillacs I'd rather talk to answer questions before you make the buy. I can work with your shipper. Test drives welcome. The Trans leaves some drips after each drive but otherwise no leaks. This car must have premium fuel and it gets 9mpg no matter how you drive it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have!
