Car description

1939 CADILLAC SIXTY SPECIAL SEDAN

This Cadillac was delivered to the H.H. Hall Cadillac dealership in Denver, Colorado on January 27, 1939. lt was then sold, in February 1939, to S. Magoffin, a railroad executive.

The car was registered in Denver, CO., St. Paul, MN and Vancouver, BC by the Magoffin's well into the 1970's. The current owner purchased the car in 2000 from its third owner, a Vancouver BC collector.

According to the original factory invoice, the factory supplied options included the two "sidemount" wheel covers [$100.00], a heater-defroster $20.00, wheel discs $9.00, and license frames $1.00. The factory invoice price was $1.677.85 and the suggested MSRP retail price was $2269.70 plus freight.

This essentially unrestored car currently has slightly more than 100,000 miles on the odometer.

The interior, seats, door panels, and headliner are original, although the carpets have been replaced.

Most of the paint and bright work are also original although some touch-up has been done on the fenders and front panels.

All of the gauges, lights and interior accessories, radio, heater, trunk lights still function.

The Cadillac's original 346 cubic inch "Flathead" V8 engine develops 135 horsepower. The engine was freshened in 2005.

The transmission is a S-speed manual-shift unit, Cadillac didn't offer automatic transmissions until 1941.

Wheelbase is 127 inches. Weight: 415O lbs. Dubbed a "S-Passenger Touring Sedan" by Cadillac, this car is still quite capable of maintaining highway touring speeds between 55-65 mph in quiet comfort.

The 1938-1940 Sixty Special was one of Cadillac's defining designs. introduced in 1938, the basic design continued until 1948, although the sheet metal particularly in the front of the car changed significantly over the years.

The flathead V8 engine which saw extensive duty powering the M5 tank during WWll was continued in production by Cadillac until 1949 when it was replaced by a new generation, overhead valve engine.

Since acquisition, every function of the car has been examined and repaired or restored to ensure reliability and safety.

Emphasis has been placed on renewal keeping the car as it was functionally when new and as it was purchased in 2000.

The body has not been restored. The paint is showing thinness in some areas.

The bumpers and other bright work are thought to be original.

The interior, with the exception of the carpeting, is original as are all of the glass panels, door panels, hardware and switches.

The car has been driven twice from Sacramento, CA to Victoria, BC/Port Angeles, WA. The route taken was along the coast of Calif, Oregon, and Washington,

lt was also driven on the Cadillac Driving Tour to Glenwood Springs, CO. The route was across US 50 from Sacramento, CA traversing Nevada, Utah and western Colorado.

The car was driven to and shown at the Cadillac and LaSalle National meet in Las Vegas, NV in 2009.
