HUGE PICTURES BELOW The ideal Fleetwood Brougham from 1977 to 1996 that had to be made. Growing up around these gorgeous sedans there has always been one problem. They oozed power and presence but did not have the performance to back up the looks. The 6.0 Liter (368 cubic inch) from 1980 to 1981 was the last of the Caddy big blocks but were victims of the EPA, recent past gas shortages, and a GM that refused to have any car they made get stuck with a gas guzzler tax (inadvertently nearly destroying Cadillac's reputation in the eighties). The 1982 to 1985 HT4100, 4.1 Liter (250 cubic inch) was dramatically underpowered, the same year Ninety Eights, Electras, and Bonnevilles were faster and cheaper! TheHT4100 was so lousy driving (because of low torque) the Oldsmobile diesel 5.7 Liters genuinely drove better (I had to experience that to believe it too). This brings us to the car offered for sale now. Thereliable but still underpowered Cadillac factory installed Oldsmobile 307 cubic inch 5.0 Liter of 1987 (only engine available in the Cadillac Brougham from '86 to '89) has been replaced by a 1968/1969 Oldsmobile 455 cubic inch 7.5 Liter big block. Horsepower went from 140hp to approximately 400hp.The legendaryTurbo 400 transmission wasinstalled as well to cope with the power/torque. Now this Brougham moves out like a LT-1 Fleetwood from 1994 to 1996 (or better) without having to deal with that body style (which was still on the 1977 frame). The Oldsmobile 455 is legendary for low end torque, outstanding reliability, and smoothness (there was a reason Oldsmobiles sold so well back then as they were the GM engineering division du jour). This Brougham transformation isn't only about speed per se, it is about comfortable cruising without having to think about passing or pulling into today's faster moving traffic (also makes the car feelmuch smaller). 39,000 miles on car and 1,700 miles on motor and transmission. This is a very heavily optioned car if you look at the pictures and trunk sticker, don't be fooled by theBrougham cloth and non d'elegance interior. Yes everything works and the conversion was done as cost no object. The cruise control works, the ac, heat, and climate control work as new. The big block starts quickly with no noise, smoke, or leaks. This is not a cobble job, this is a quality job with no rough edges. Acts exactly like a new 1987 Fleetwood Brougham would except it can now get out of its own way. This is also not a high mile car that was converted, this is a low mile, garage kept car with no hidden stories. Please note this Caddy has two sets of hubcaps. One the ubiquitous wire hubcaps and one the rare D'elegance turbine caps. I have been on eBay since 2001 and have 100% positive feedback. Several of those feedbacks are from classic car sales, please read to confirm satisfied sales. This 455 Brougham is in Santa Fe New Mexico at 7,200 ft altitude in my garage (whew!). Come and take a look or have it inspected. Clean car fax.
