Car description

I am relisting this car because the winning bidder did not pay and would not return e-mail or attempts to contact. Up for sale is a 1961 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe. This car was updated last fall with 1964 dual master cylinder and has all new wheel cylinders, shoes and brake hoses. Original Hydramatic was removed in 2006 and a durable, completely re-manufactured TH 400 transmission was installed behind a Wilcap adapter. The original 390 engine runs well with the addition of an Edelbrock carburetor, Mallory Unifire module in the original distributor. The Offenhauser aluminum valve covers and chrome air cleaner really set off the vintage look. Original air cleaner is included in sale. New heater core last year provides plenty of warm air for late autumn cruises! The odometer shows just over 50,000 miles but is no longer working so the original mileage is unknown, speedometer works just fine. Car is equipped with 6 way power seat (not working), as well as tinted windows. This is an air conditioned car but the compressor was removed (included in sale), condenser, piping, controls are all in place. This car has minimal rust on the passenger lower front fender (see photo 7"x 6" section) but is otherwise rust free. The Fontana Rose paint is considered driver quality, some original paint is still present. I am including a brand new unopened quart of OEM paint for your convenience. If you plan on showing this classic, she will need a new paint job but this one is fine for "wash and shine." The original seats are decent but beginning to show some signs of wear with minor tears and nicks but ok for a "driver". A brand new dark grey cloth headliner and correct black carpet are included in the sale and will be shipped in original packaging in the car for buyer to install. Also included is an aftermarket cover for the dash as the original is cracked and the cost for a replacement tops $1000. Door panels are in average condition for a 56 year old car. Chrome is very nice with no pitting, large dents or rust. There are some minor scrapes and bumps but you really have to look to see them. I am including a good used front grille with the purchase as well. Undercarriage is VERY rust free and solid! All lights, wipers, heater fan operate properly. Original radio works intermittently, probably needs a new tube?
Car runs well with recent electric fuel pump to offset "ethanol" infused gasoline mandated in this part of the country. Easily converted to original mechanical pump should you wish to do so. This Caddy rides on four 235/75R15 radial tires with plenty of tread.
I try to be completely honest in all my Ebay sales as I have been stung in the past by dishonest sellers and cannot tolerate them. I have attempted to be OVERLY critical in my estimation of this classic because I want YOU to be happy with your purchase! I was recently told the car is MUCH NICER in person than I listed online. Stated below are the only issues I would address as a new owner:
1. The car has a MINOR vibration between 45-50 mph due to the transmission swap or 10 year old tires? A minor re-positioning of the mount or new tires should honestly fix this. It was never obnoxious enough for me to address it so I lived with it. Car can be driven anywhere, very dependable!
2. The engine vacuum reads about 2-3 degrees of mercury lower than it should resulting in the power brakes being just a touch harder than factory when stopping. I installed new intake manifold gaskets a month ago and noticed a bit of corrosion at the base of the intake. I believe having it machined true would alleviate the minor variance in vacuum. I wanted to have this done but the closest machine shop that works on cast iron "V" intakes is 50 miles away!
This has been a wonderful car in the 14 years I have owned it! It was driven from Chicago to Baltimore and back again several years ago and has seen about 200-500 miles per year since I purchased it. I hate to see it go but our house was destroyed by a recent lightning/propane explosion, we've moved to a MUCH smaller property and have to reduce my fleet from 10 collector cars to 3. This is a very clean, rust free original that could be a show car with a good paint job, minor mechanical tinkering and some interior work. Car is sold as is/where is with no warranty expressed or implied and must be moved within 30 days of close of sale as the property/storage garage has been sold to my neighbor. $500 deposit due at close of auction, balance in cash, certified check, bank transfer or PayPal due within 7 days unless other arrangements are made. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS CAR IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO PAY or cannot have vehicle shipped within 30 days. Car is for sale locally so seller reserves the right to end the auction early. If I do not successfully sell it on this attempt, I will keep it and move on to a different classic to part with. THANKS FOR LOOKING!!
Please call or email with questions and thank you so much for bidding, happy motoring! Mike 765.661.8217
