Summer is Coming
Up for auction is an outstanding 1968 Cadillac DeVille convertible: this is an un-restored original automobile. These original convertibles don't come up for sale in this condition too often...and especially in such a desirable San Mateo red & white color combination.
This amazing car has 43,897 well-cared for miles since production.
The car runs beautifully, drives almost without rattles, and virtually all systems operating as they should.
Featured options are Automatic Climate Control, power windows, 6-way power seat, Twilight Sentinel, Guide-Matic Headlamp Control and AM-FM Stereo radio. Please see the photo of the window sticker for a complete listing of options.
This convertible Cadillac is a joy to drive, and handles easily for such a generous car. Plenty of power, as this is the first year of the 472 Cubic Inch engine.
Paint is approximately 80% original and at an extremely high level for a car of 49 years.
Also factory original is the convertible top which is an example of the care the car has received through its life.
Positive Aspects:
* No unusual engine sounds or smoke
* Transmission shifts properly
* All Lights function
* Car tracks straight down the road
* Brakes straight & positive
* Windows & top operate properly
* All 5 original tires (on original wheels)
* Original spark plug wires (dated 2nd Quarter ?68)
* Original top
* Continuously garaged
* Original chrome in excellent condition
* Interior is extremely fresh and well cared for
Negative Aspects:
* When moving seat, "old seat noises" happen
* Climate Control operates fine in Cold & Hot, yet is persnickety upon start-up
* 4" diameter paint imperfection on right front hood section
* Not all original paint...some spotting over the years(see photos)
* The top has 2 small tears and 2 split seams at the back window, each about 5" long
* Power door locks lose vacuum over time
This car has been garaged properly during my ownership and maintained as needed. I have detailed documentation of all work done since my ownership.
Please call me and I will provide you with an on-line album with
75 more detailed photographs
Jay Leno's Garage has an interesting book review with the authors who drove a similar 1968 DeVille convertible across the country on Route 66. A link by searching Google with the title below...
The book's title: 'Route 66, The People-The Places-The Dream'
The lucky buyer will get all original documentation that I received when I purchased the car in 2006. Also included are all 5 original tires and rims and some quality items which belong with the car.
This car is not perfect, as it has not been restored to today's unusually high restoration levels.
What we have here is a production automobile, with 43,897 miles. It has been driven on Missouri and California roads and highways. Although obviously cared for since day one; it has some minor paint issues, and the top has some issues (see photos). Also, some fluids drip when the car has sits for a few months. Most of the chrome on the car can be described as excellent; although some pieces have the tiniest of wear. The beauty of this original San Mateo red paint are the variety of hues depending on the light of day/night.
It's red metallic in full sun, deep maroon at night and a copper-ish hue at dusk. Many repainted vehicles lose this subtlety.
I will gladly provide further information, including additional photos of certain parts of the car if a buyer is serious.
Please come to San Luis Obipso, California and experience the car for yourself. If you cannot, and an appraisal is requested, I will
be happy to work with them as well.
What I will not do is answer e mails thus, please NO E MAILS!
A clear title is held by me, and available to the winning bidder upon full payment.
As with any vintage car, this Cadillac DeVille convertible is sold as-is. No warranty is expressed or implied.
Shipping costs are the responsibility of the auction winner. I will be happy to work with your shipper for a smooth transaction.
Please phone me...Giulio Dedini (805) 234-7733 and I will be happy to answer any questions I may have missed.
If you have less than 10 or a % of 98 or less, please CALL me BEFORE you bid, or I will cancel your bid.
As ebay no longer has the availability of where an item is shipped, I encourage buyers from foreign countries to have a conversation with me prior to bidding.
Thanks and Good Luck. And, remember "Summer is Coming". On Apr-06-17 at 21:26:20 PDT, seller added the following information:
