Very rare Sixty Special Imperial! One of just 220 ever produced in 1941! This one shows only 80,000 miles on the odometer and a beautiful, completely new interior throughout! Excellent options that include division glass partition, 3-speed transmission, factory amber fog lamps, stoplight, dual radios, and more! A great addition to any prominent Cadillac collection!
In 1941, Cadillac decided to go back to fitting their cars with just one engine model. It’s the first time this one name, one engine marketing campaign has happened since 1926. Now all Cadillacs were powered by the same 346ci L-head V-8 engine, which produced 150 horsepower. This was a very bold move by Cadillac, but it worked out in their favor considering the engine’s long standing reputation for dependability. Major design changes in 1941 included sweeping front fenders now extending back into the front doors with headlights built into the front along with a new, rectangular grill, repositioned parking & turn signal lamps, and revised front bumper assembly giving the new Sixty Specials a look often imitated by other manufacturers going forward, including GM’s own Chevrolet division. The wheel base was reduced by one inch, and Sixty Special prices increased slightly due to these fresh design and style changes. Even today, many Cadillac enthusiasts consider the Sixty Special the most attractive Cadillac ever designed by Bill Mitchell. More so, just 4,100 examples would be built this final, full production year before the war effort would begin. Rarer still would be the 220 Imperials manufactured with a factory partition glass window dividing the passenger compartments.
We are very excited to be offering this 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special Imperial finished in its factory original Gloss Black lacquer exterior. Purchased from the former owner/curator for the past 36 years here in Missouri, this very well preserved car remained nearly 100% original throughout upon acquisition. Although, the original interior upholstery had survived rather well being covered in plastic for many years, we felt this extremely rare Imperial deserved a new interior. It was completely removed in late 2015 and professional refinished by our very own Danny Slivinski here in-house. Everything from the headliner to the carpet were all recovered! New tan broadcloth cloth and light brown Bedford cord were provided by Hirsch, and the oatmeal square weave in the trunk. The headliner was outsourced and reproduced by SMS Auto Fabrics. From the seat buttons, sun visors, re-chromed trim spears on the door panels & seat bottoms, Wilton I wool carpeting, binding, wind lace, wireon, to the new rear ash tray covers, it now all looks brand new and truly gorgeous!
The majority of examples came in the style number 41-6019, which was a standard Fleetwood Sixty Special Touring Sedan for 5 passengers. This one we are offering has the style number 41-6019F, which was a Fleetwood Sixty Special Imperial Sedan that has a formal glass division. Only 220 were produced like this, and they were priced $150 higher than the base model. Additional features on this example include favored 3-speed manual transmission, auxiliary oil filter, Motorola Golden Voice pushbutton AM radio up front with fender mounted antenna, secondary rear radio with individual armrest controls & rear mounted antenna, windshield washer, Appleton spotlight, locking fuel door cover, under-seat heaters with defrost, front amber tinted fog lamps, rear trunk light, and Firestone Wide whitewall Deluxe Champion tires measuring 7.00-15 in size.
Finding cars this rare & original is always special, even for a tenured collector! This Cadillac still retains original stamped engine block, some of its original porcelain on the exhaust manifolds, the insulation on the exhaust down tube, splash guards on the front suspension, original carburetor hear shield, excellent cloth-covered wiring, and so much more! It has been serviced with care and continues to start easy, idle super quiet, and drive without any major concerns. Excellent clutch engagement with no chatter, strong braking, and good road feedback from the steering. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or offers.
