Car description |

Up for auction is a 57 Buick Roadmaster 75 4 door hardtop. Colors are Mint Green top over Gulf Green lower body. Gulf Green Poly is a 57 Spring color, and this car sports the lesser-seen paint separation line that is at the belt line, as opposed to the more common sweepspear color separation. This is a striking color combination when fresh.
Two years ago, this car was rescued from a field in Indiana and brought to St. Louis as a project to get back on the road. Since then, the car was made to run, drive, and stop. Not much else has been done to continue the project, mostly due to time constraints with work and family. All exterior lights and turn signals were made sure to work so the car could be taken on the road legally. This can be a fun project to drive while you restore, or go all-out and give it the nut-and-bolt restoration that they all deserve. It has great bones, and just needs a loving caretaker.
BodyThe car definitely could use body work and paint. It also has decent "patina" if you're into that kind of thing. It has rust in the typical spots of GM cars of that vintage. I tried to photograph the car so that these areas can easily be seen in them. The worst areas are in the rear door jambs. Outer rockers have a few holes as well. It looks like the the paint has been redone sometime in the very distant past. All of the interior and trunk floors are really solid. There is some rust in the left hand wheel well inside the trunk that can be seen in one of the photos.
Engine/DrivelineThe engine feels like a strong runner, and the transmission doesn't have any slippage issues. Goes into gear fine. Typical fluid seepage from the Dynaflow transmission, but nothing major. All spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, were replaced. It has a Pertronix electronic ignition to replace the points. New water pump and thermostat. New vacuum advance. Installed new carburetor guts and cleaned it out. NOS fuel filter housing installed. The exhaust system is rotten, and needs replacement. It has new shocks on all 4 corners. Brakes were inspected and repaired as needed, and they feel really strong.
Chrome/Stainless trimEverything is there. Both rear and front bumper ends are super solid, great cores for rechrome...which is pretty rare in these cars. A rear bumper end core usually runs around $500 if you can find one. The front upper grille bar is cracked and pretty pitted.
InteriorFront seat is pretty rough. When the car was brought home, there were some crappy aftermarket seat covers on it, so those came off. The carpet was in shambles, so it was cut out in anticipation of replacing, but we also wanted to see the condition of the floors. They are surprisingly really solid. The rear package tray material is gone, assuming it was just rotten, since those usually get really crumbly after 50 years in the sun. The dash pad is faded, but can be redyed easily. The dashboard chrome is decent driver condition. Headliner needs replacement. The photos do a good job of speaking for the interior condition.
TiresThe tires were bought new in early 2018 and they have virtually no miles on them.
WeatherstrippingI would just assume that all the rubber seals around the doors and such will need replacement to be weather tight.
TrunkSuper solid floor, including the spare tire well. The cardboard side liners are included with the car, but are in rough shape.
The buyer is responsible for transportation after purchase. I will assist in pickup if needed. I will sell worldwide! I know these Buicks have a large international following, and I want to make it available if you're interested. I've sold several cars that go overseas.
$500 deposit required once auction ends, and cash or wire transfer for the remainder of the balance. The car is for sale locally, so the auction may be ended early due to sale.
