1940 Buick Series 50 “Super†4 door sedan. A true garage find: An unmolested all-original survivor that has been garaged all of its life with absolutely no rot anywhere! When the brake hoses were changed, the original flare nuts on the factory brake lines unscrewed with ease. Running, registered, inspected through October of 2020 and driven regularly. Very dependable. This car has the following known options:

Outside Rearview MirrorThis Buick was purchased new in Woodside, Long Island and brought to a summer home near Lancaster, New Hampshire where it served as chauffeur-driven transportation for its wealthy owners. Golf score card pencils in the glove compartment attest to the various Country Clubs that it has visited. The interior is completely original and in excellent condition. This car was never smoked in! All window glass is original and all windows go up and down as they should. I have not opened the front or rear vent windows. There are no rips or tears in the upholstery and all handles and trim are present. The doors open and close as they should and even the door locks work, both manually inside and by key outside.
This car comes with 2 sets of original keys, one set with its original fob. The dash lights, save for the clock, and the glove compartment light still work. The original glove compartment box is still in place and in excellent condition. Some of the plastic pieces in the trim have cracked and the control knobs have deteriorated as has the plastic control mechanism of the defroster. The heater and defroster are not plumbed, but the fans work. The vacuum windshield wipers work as intended. The directional lights work as they should—To pass inspection, I had to change the factory-original flasher unit from 1940! The carpeting is original and you can see from the wear pattern where the person in high-heels sat. The Ammeter and the Temperature gauge work well. The Speedometer and Gas gauge do not work. The Oil Pressure gauge should work, but still has its original steel capillary line which is plugged (the engine shows 45 psi at an idle at the engine tap).
The paint is original and I cannot find that any body work has ever been done to this car. The stainless-steel trim is bright, but the chrome is deteriorating. I have the stainless rocker moulding that is missing in the photos of the passenger-side and it goes with the car. There is damage to the passenger-side rear door where it has obviously been sprung at some point when the car was backing up. The windshield and backglass rubber gaskets appear to be in good condition and there are no obvious leaks. The trunk is complete, all original and very clean. Even the trunk light works! All exterior lights work, including the 3rd generation Guide Super Ray driving lights; however, I had to jump the relay with a fusible link as the relay was not reliable.
Under the hood, the engine starts readily and runs well. There is a little lifter tick, but no other noises. It runs comfortably at 50-55 mph: It can go faster, but it doesn’t like it. It does burn oil, which is decreasing the more I drive it. It only smokes after going down a long hill under compression. The cooling system has been completely rebuilt and works well. It has had a recent tune-up, valve adjustment, oil and filter change. The charging system works as it should, as does the starter. This car has its original electrical wiring throughout. It is in good condition inside the car and the trunk, but has begun deteriorating in the engine compartment.
The brakes have been gone through with new hoses, master cylinder, rear brake shoes and a major adjustment. It has new tires and tubes. It does need to have the No-Rol device and shocks rebuilt, the king pins and stabilizer links replaced and the front wheel bearings cleaned and packed with grease. New front wheel seals and stabilizer links come with the car, as do all receipts.
