Car description |
---|
I am listing this exceptional, low production number (547), low mileage (41K), original 1987 Buick GNX (Grand National EXTRA). It has not been modified and was the fastest American made production car in the 80s due to ASC/McLaren's turbo power upgrade. This car is on every auto industry’s list as the “best of the eighties”.
One the most recognizable and most desirable Buicks of all time. The demand was so high that some dealerships were selling them for $60K in 1987! It is factory correct/original and is believed to be the manufacturer recall paint (I was told it was repainted by the dealership due to well known orange peel paint issues in 87') with a mirror reflection. This is a low owner vehicle (3) and has always been in a loving collectors’ possession.
The GNX was the fastest production car made in America in 1987. It was faster than the Corvette and the Grand National. It also beat the Ferrari and the Porsche that year (I found this online).
There are 547 GNXs out there (actually less if you want to be technical), but this one exceeds in quality and met my high standards.
I have been selling on eBay for 20 years (1998) with a perfect 100% customer feedback rating, specializing in selling a few high end and very rare vehicles. Bid with confidence and know that this vehicle is as advertised. I critique any vehicle I sell as if I was buying it, so know that I will disclose every last detail, to best of my ability and will take the time to discuss any specific questions with anyone who has questions.
This unrestoredsurvivorcar isnear perfectionin quality and correctness. Simply an amazing investment for a $41K mileage car.
With all thespeculationof an all new redesigned Grand National and GNX possible, these will be sure to follow a pattern like the 05/06 Ford GT and the release of the new 2017 Ford GT spike in valuations. If the brand new 2019 GN's do bring a disappointment, then these will be even more desirable!
The GNX models will never increase in number and many have disappeared, some have had major mods (yuck), a some have been in accidents, many have higher mileage and some are hidden away in personal collections. There is absolutely no doubt that these will skyrocket in price in the next few years. Historically speaking, I am the demographic that loves this vehicle and not unlike the cars from the 60’s and 70’s…the 80’s kids are getting older and "I Believe" this is "The Most" desirable car of the eighties. You will not a list (of 80’s vehicles) that doesn't include the GNX (fastest, coolest, most rare). A similar GNX went for $165K in Kissimmee (2017) and #547 went for $225K less than a year ago.
This GNX has no mods andwas never raced! I went to see it with my own eyes and that the condition was in line with my standards (if you are going to spend this type of money, you want to make sure it meets your standards). It didn’t disappoint and I bought it onsite immediately with cash.
Extremely important: There are NO stress cracks or twisting of the frame which is an easy indicator that the car may have been raced or abused. I will take pictures of the GNX on a lift to substantiate my claim.
The original spare is in the trunk and was never removed. The original jack assembly has been untouched as well.
THIS GNX IS FULLY LOADED WITH EVERY OPTION AVAILABLE: ice cold air conditioning, power windows, power locks, 6-way power seats, tilt wheel, cruise control, power steering, power brakes, automatic trunk release, rear defroster, concert sound II, the Stewart Warner round gauge package, upgraded suspension and upgraded power. It also comes with all the original documentation, including the originalwindow sticker.
It isbelieved to have an approvedfactory repaint (Buick had a well-known recall on paint and approved local dealers to repaint) and was detailed toa mirror reflection . *Disclaimer, this vehicle had been buffed (prior to me owning it) and there are a couple of small areas where the detailer thinned the paint. It is barely noticeable and you have to really inspect the vehicle to even see them, but I am a perfectionist and want to ensure I annotate any flaw (no matter how minuscule). I had to decide whether to keep the original paint or have the best paint shop in Iowa repaint it for 10K. I decided to leave the paint original in case the winning bid preferred it that way. I did, discount the vehicle $10K because of this fact, but wanted to give the new owner the power to choose.
This vehicle was never smoked in, never had pets in it, has never had food in it and has never seen snow.
This is a highly documented 41,000-mile car and has the original, numbers matching factory engine. It has a clean and clear title in my name.
The air conditioning blows ice cold.
It has an immaculate undercarriage!
Please feel free to view in person. You must see it with the naked eye in direct sunlight to truly appreciate how amazing it looks! I tried to take pictures that showed the highly reflective paint.
Restoration is not cheap and parts are hard to find, if not impossible!! Try researching stock parts for these cars. I can guarantee you will be hard pressed to find anything. Even aftermarket items aren't cheap when available!
The GNX is straight as an arrow with NO unwanted sideways pull.Equal and factory correctdoor gaps, hood gaps, trunk gaps throughout. The badging is all in excellent original condition and is factory correct.
Two amazing facts. Most people viewing this are already GN and GNX experts and know the chronic issues with these vehicles. The bumper fillers on this vehicle were replaced and there are NO CRACKS. And yes, the power antenna still works, which is a rarity!
Upholstery, no rips or wear. The front and back seats look factory new and the dash has no cracks.
I suggest that you take the time and research the internet on prices. Not just eBay, but other sites and auctions as well. The high selling points of this vehicle are the original numbers matching engine, immaculate original interior, the year, the options, the low mileage and the low production number. Vehicle investors know that low miles increase value, but it is also as important how the vehicle was maintained. A some GNXs may have less than $10K miles, but they will be in worse shape because they sat, while the engines fluids rot.
The previous collectors kept it well maintained and drove the vehicle (an average of 1,300 miles a year).
It takes about $60,000 - $80,000 to restore a GNX, PLUS the cost of the car.
NADA appraises GNXs for $62K for the low retail value, $94k for the average retail value and $132K for the high retail value, BUT they have been going from $165-$225K at the auctions as mentioned before.
Quick Stats on GN vs GNX engines

Re-designed computer to improve timing and TH200-4R to perfect performance
Longitudinal torque bar
Tubular SteelPanhard rod
Revised lower control arms
The GNX held 12.7 second, 113.1 mph quarter mile times that beat the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 930 Turbo that year.
There were 547 GNXs made in 1987, the FIRST/LAST/ONLY YEAR! Most desirable and collectible, because of the extremely low production numbers! I relate it to the Yenko limited editions of the 60s and we all know how much those go for now!
This GNX has only seen minutes of daylight since I have owned it, mostly for pictures. It is always covered up with the #1 rated, breathable car cover on the market, to prevent dust from settling on it. It spends all its time in a temperature controlled garage.
WHAT MISSING PARTS TO WATCH FOR ON OTHER GNXs(which this car does have): GNX rims, original stereo, good bumper fillers, power antenna and documentation. This car is missing nothing but a new home.
I took high definition pictures and could only post 24 (I have many more). I chose the most important pictures, but am willing to send any additional pictures you’d like to see. If you see this GNX in person, you will buy it immediately, just like I did.
I am also selling this locally and retain the right to sell it early and end the auction. I have set the reserve lower to allow for a $10K repaint (which is not needed, but used as an incentive to sell either way).
I will not sell the vehicle to anyone else once the vehicle reaches the reserve. Don’t let this one escape. Trust me, I have missed out on a few rarities trying to save a few thousand dollars and I am still “sick-to-death” over making those poor decisions.
I also reserve the right to end the auction early (which I assume will happen) if an acceptable offer comes in. It will also be advertised locally and nationally.
$2000 deposit can be made by PayPal or wire transfer within 24 hours. The remaining balance must be paid by wire transfer or cash. No exceptions (so please take note of this prior to bidding!) Blame the scammers because they have ruined everything. I also do not need assistance in selling this vehicle, so please don’t contact me in those regards.
The winning bidder is responsible for shipping costs and the GNX is sold "as is".
This GNX is located in Des Moines Iowa and is easy to find and will be easy to load.
This is an opportunity for you to own your dream car or make a sound investment (way more secure than the stock market and way higher returns on investment.
Thank you for browsing and/or bidding. I am also selling my personal collection of three other vehicles in including a 1987 Buick Grand National, a 1975 Chevy Blazer and a 1989 Chevy TigerProvan (for leisure). Please see seller's other items if you are interested. As you will see, my personal collection only consists of the very best!
As a final note: please familiarize yourself on the history of Buick Grand Nationals, check NADA pricing, historic values on Barrett Jackson/Mecum, check other vehicles on eBay, Autotrader and other sites. Why would I share this? Because this vehicle is far superior (which helps me) and an educated buyer is a confident/happy buyer (which helps you). I am very confident in my reserve and I am also very confident that you will be overjoyed to own this pristine classic. As mentioned above, the reserve is well below the price it should be!
