Up for auction is an incredibly well preserved and original 1968 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible. This car has been garage kept its entire life and is believed to have only 52,000 actual original miles. This Electra was built on February 19, 1968 and sold new March 23, 1968 from a dealer in LaPorte, Texas. This car is believed to be a special order car with Black Cherry Red paint and is loaded with nearly every available option for the year. It is equipped with power windows, power locks, power seat, power antenna, power top, tilt wheel, cruise control, A/C, factory AM/FM radio, speed alert, power trunk release, factory quad horns, and factory power front disc brakes. The power locks and trunk release are not currently operable because there is a vacuum leak in the lock system. The A/C compressor kicks on, but could use a charge to achieve ice cold air. Other than these few items, all other power options function as they should.
The interior of this Electra is absolutely beautiful. The red seat upholstery is in excellent condition and shows very little signs of wear. The dash is perfect without even the slightest crack or sign of fading. All of the gauges and knobs on the dash are in great shape without any major fading or wear. The carpets are essentially perfect throughout aside from a rip under the driver's side floor mat. The original all-season rubber floor mats still remain in the car. The original convertible top boot remains with the car in excellent condition. The convertible top is brand new and has a solid glass rear window. The convertible top goes up and down with ease without any leaks from the hydraulic rams. All of the glass is in excellent condition.
The body of this car is extremely straight. The car is completely ding and dent free and has never seen a fender bender. The body and undercarriage are both 100% rust free and have never had any previous rust repairs. The trunk pan is like new without even minor surface rust. All other floor pans are in excellent condition. The car has been repainted one time throughout its life and shows very well. The car does have some very minor nicks and scratches throughout, but all have been touched up with factory color matched touch-up paint and are nearly undetectable. There is one area on the front of the hood on the passenger side that has a cluster of several little nicks, presumably from storage at some time, but nothing major.
This car runs and drives as well as it looks. The big Buick 430 V8 has tons of torque and is very healthy. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and operates as it should. This car floats down the road and has a very impressive ride. A new exhaust system along with new factory front 4 piston brake calipers have recently been installed. The original spare along with the original jack and tools remain in the trunk. The original owner's manual, Protecto Plate and warranty pamphlet, Delco FM stereo guide, Buick approved accessories pamphlet and the original glove box copy of the build card all remain with the car. This car is truly a time capsule and is likely one of the most well optioned and documented Buick convertibles left in existence today.
