Car description

1928 Buick Speedster ( Re-creation )
The origin of this Speedster project began as a 1928 Buick Series 20 Sedan which has been re-styled to resemble an early teens Indy car or Vanderbilt style racer.
The fram, steering box / colum, brake, firewall / cow, hoo, seat, and wooden spoke wheels are original 1928 Buick. Frame serial number tag is mounted behind the battery bo, and the body style tag number is mounted on the firewall.
Car was formerly on display in the Pioneer Auto Museum in Murd, S, at which time the basic speedster 're-styling" conversion had already been accomplished.I acquired the car in Sept. 2009 and began the reconstruction process in Red Oa, Iow, including rear frameimprovement, rear tube axle replacemen, rear 4 link style suspensio, minor body work & pain, pin-stripin, and custom leather upholstery.
The original 4 cylinder motor had already been replaced with a 1936 Buick 233 cu.in. straight eight with open 8 tube heade, mated to a mid 50's Saginaw 3 speed manual transmission. Shifting by means of the external "gated" shifter located outside the driver's seat. The ratchet parking brake linkage was never connected belo, but I've never needed it to function.Twin drive chains are "R-100" roller chains with sprockets on both sides of the automobile. An intermediate limited slip diff modified with sprocket, transfers power to the rear wheels by means of the chains ( which are easily removed with cotter pins ).
I then brought the car down to Houston for the extensive cosmetic and detailing upgrade, with a complete new 12 volt labelled "E-Z Wiring" style wiring harness routed thru vintage style asphalt wire loo, soldered connections and marine grade shrink tubing. The fuse panel is now conveniently located below the driver's ( right side ) seat cushion. A heavy duty power on / off switch" is mounted on the firewall.
The ignition switch and heavy dutyUnimogsignal switch arelocated between the seats.
Extensive time and effort was spent locating all the brass and copper detailin, then having it all professionally bright polished & industrial grade clear-coated specific for brass and copper.
Motor is now fueled with anew electric fuel pum, fuel pressure regulator and two new Speedway 97 carbs through polished copper fuel lines and braided copper hose. Motor runs strong and starts quick .... for the added lea, I run it on a blend of pump fuel and C12 race fuel with 110 octan, and a splash of Marvelous Mystery Oil .... the sound is magica, and for the piston heads out there .... the aroma is fantastic ....
The originally mounted brass chain driven "K-W" Magneto was not functional therefore disconnecte, but retained and polished for aesthetics and replaced witha new distributor cap and "Pertronics" ignition system.
The original rad is clean and without issues .... an extra large capacity solid brass vintage heavy equipment overflow tank has been added. Motometer works.
All lighting systems and signals have been upgraded to modern sockets and bulb, including the large vintage brightly polished"Rushmore" marine search light with polished interior mirror.
All the previous woodwork was remove, retained for template purposes if applicable, and replaced with one inch thick solid oak with several coats of hand rubbed stain and Danish Oil for a rich deep luster. The dash panels are also built from scratch using oak veneer plywood with sold oak overlay panel. Polished re-cast Buick foot-plates help protect the oak floorboards and side steps.
The vintage aluminuminstrument cluster panel is an original casting by the "Northwestern Motor Company" known for producing aviation tugs during WW-II. The aluminum has been carefully refinished to resemble oil rubbed bronze. All gauges are new "Dolphin" gauges. Speedo is not currently connected.
The solid brass vintage windshield brackets from a antique Chris Craft have also been bright polished and clear-coated . Modern automotive glass is used for the windshield.
Original steering column is covered with a polished solid brass tube. The solid brass "Cobra Head" Bulb horn if fully functional.
Main fuel tank is a 45 gallon solid copper riveted tank with 1/8" thick outer shell has been sealed internall, and a vintage brass flip-top filler neck has been installed. The level sight glass is extra heavy wall industrial grade tempered tubes with 7/8" OD and 5/16" wall thickness. The tank rests on (4)- 2 1/2" thick solid oak saddle, held in place by stainless steel strapping with 2 1/2" wide heavy leather straps with brass buckles. Oak saddles are bolted thru a 6" steel C-channel hidden below the 1" thick oak plank decking.Readily available "Viton" O-rings, and fuel line areall that'srequired to make this tank fully functional. There is a convenient existing threaded bung to complete the fuel line connection.Car is currently fueled by the small brass tank behind the Model T battery box.
The original wood spoke wheels are very solid and tight despite their ag, and the tires all hold air without leaks. The spare wheel is for display purposes and is mounted utilizing an early 30's Plymouth spare tire carrie, by means of a custom machined spindle and a polished solid bronze cap from an antique fire hydrant .... I just like the looks ...
The very strong and secure seat belts are courtesy of a Huey helicopter.
Mechanical drum brakes are far more effective than one would expec, and scrub speed very well.
This would make an ideal parade car or for quiet country road enjoyment with family or grand-kids. This automobile receives huge amount of attention everywhere it goes whether it's on a traile, in a vintage car even, or certainly driving down the road.
Car comes with full clear titl, correct and verified by local law enforcement.

They are sized "Medium" & "Extra Large" - both are flawless, worn only once and fit bigger than the sizes indicate. Vintage . WW-II Japanese fighter pilot leathergauntlet gloves with leather cap and brass framed racing goggles .... I'll let you come up with the rest of the "period" attire.

For clarification on terminologies: This is not a "restoration" in the true sense of the wor, since this "Style" was not an originally factory produced Buick automobile ..... it is an extensively "detailed re-creation, therefore I kindly request that I not get questions about "Numbers Matching" ( other than the matching frame serial number and cowl body plate , or "What's the original mileage ?"
This car is also listed locally and I therefore reserve the right to end this listing at any time.
Stearman Bi-plane not included ....
No trade, no refunds.
New Note: ( May 19-2017 ) Thanks to recent information kindly provided by a Facebook observer I was advised just this wee, that the car was originally created by the late Mr. Stacey Breckenridge of Auburn, CA.Stacey was very well known in the world of extreme off road and rock crawling on the west coast . Here's a few new pieces of technical background that went into the original build : the drive axle is from an early Jee, the gated shifter / lever brake / foot brake & clutch pedals are from a 1915 Studebake, the "K-W" mag came from a vintage Curtis V-8 aircraf, the front axle is 'likely' Frankli, the grill shell and rad are 1927 Buick.
I can only hope that Stacey looks down favorably upon my transformation of his original build.....
