1980 BMW 528i (E12). I'm second owner. 127,000+ original miles. (Just this spring the odometer has stopped working consistently.) It was a Louisville car all it's life. It was stored for a while during the 90's and 2000's and driven very little. When I bought it last year it needed some work. Here are the things I've replaced.tie rodso2 sensorfuel pump(s)/sending unitignition parts (coil, emp sensors, ist rotor/cap, park plugs)some shift bushingssun visor clipsheadlights - low beamstransmission oilstereosubframe bushingsE39 Wheels Style 32Firestone Tiresfan clutchclutch master/slave cylindersFuel TankAlignmentShockswater pumpH&R SpringsWipersInjectorsFront brakes and fluidFront left caliperHeater ValveControl Arms/ball jointsThermostatStarterThe car drives beautifully. It is a good balance of sporty and cruisibility. The engine has equal compression across all cylinders and uses no oil. When I adjusted the valves, here was no carbon buildup on the valve cover - very clean. The previous owner took very good care of it. He did repaint it at some point. It was doneprofessionallywith single stage paint (like came originally on the car). It does not leak or drip oil, owever some parts underneath have some seepage around seals as you would expect from an old car. The interior is not perfect. The air conditioning works, hough it's not super cold. The acceleration is smooth, he steering is responsive, he braking is impressive. It's a fun car to own and drive. It is easy to work on or learn to work on if you're a novice. It's a good baselined car, ut it's not a show car. It could be probably, ut I don't have the time or interest in show cars. I have all the previous owner's paperwork for your convenience. If I were to keep it another 3 years, ere are the things I expect to work on:- sunroof - it pops up with some help, t retracts with some help. It occasionally will leak slightly if parked nose-down.- rubber trim around windows (window scrapers) They are deteriorating somewhat - not a huge deal to me, ay bug you.- the idle is rough occasionally. Typical for L-JET BMW's and there are guides on the internet on how to remedy this.- shift bushings are OK, ut not great. The parts are cheap, he job is annoying, o I've lived with it..- the muffler has a small hole in it. Getting louder as time passes.- the driver seat has a tear- rear brakes occasionally squeakThe bottom line is that this is a good classic car. It's an old car and it will occasionally have old car problems. I've made it into what I consider a reliable daily driver and treat it as such. I drive it approximately 30 miles per day and enjoy every mile. It's not perfect. There are a few spots of rust bubbles under the paint (see pics) There are no rust holes that I'm aware of. I'vedescribedit to the best of knowledge. I believe in full transparency. I'm selling it because I need something with a little more room for the kiddos. Car is located just east of Louisville, Y and is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early if I find a local buyer. Please ask any questions before the auction ends. I'll answer promptly.
