This 1980 BMW M535i is one of 960 left hand drive examples built over a 13 month period ending in May of ’81. Pre-dating the E28 M5 as the Motorsport division’s first sedan, these cars were partially constructed on the regular E12 assembly line before being shipped to M for completion. M535i specific build details included the 3.5L, 635CSi-sourced M90 motor, close ratio, dogleg Getrag 5-speed.
Conditionofthis car is mint, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those expert car collectors andenthusiasts. Thepaint is stunning, has a few minorscratches as seen in the images. There is aspecific picture with a larger dent zoomed in to emphasize anynoticeableimperfections; the hood ofthe car was open when I was reversing out of my garage, Idid notrealize the garage door wasn'tcompletely opened, resulting inthe dent. This car is 100% free of any rust and has never been repaired in that regard. The interior is in mint condition, verybeautiful. No cracks onthe dash, no rips or stains on the upholstery. Carpet isimmaculate, accompaniedwith originalfloor mats which are also inwonderfulcondition. Trunk is very clean andcontainsthe original and complete tool kit. The engine is verypowerful, no smoke, no leaks. Overall, the car never gave me anyproblems. Transmission shifts well with nonoises. Everything in the carfunctions accordingly andproperly. The previous owner added new BBS wheels, I recently added new tires. The new tires have run less than 100 miles.
The car was sold new in Germany from Automobil-HANDLES-Ges. Egon Gladen GmbH & Co KG, Gelsenkirchen-Buer on May 23, 1980. After two owners in Germany, the car was imported to the United States on December 19, 1985 with 64,095km (39,826 miles). The vehicle then arrived to Houston on January 4, 1986. It was registered on January 21,1986 in Fort Collins, Colorado. I purchased the car from a gentlemen in 2011 with approximately 138,829km (86,264 miles). Today on January 15, 2020, the car has 146,564km (91,070 miles). The car has always kept up with maintenance, well taken care of, and kept in a climate control garage.
I absolutely love this car & enjoyed it for almost a decade. Unfortunately, I will be moving soon and no longer can provide a home for it. Feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, and additional pictures. I respectfully ask to not waste my time or yours if you are not a serious buyer.
Note: All import records have been preserved. Includes DOT & EPAinformation.
