1987 BMW L6 / 635csi Project
This E24 is being offered for sale 'as is' in non-running condition for restoration or driver preservation. The 'L' for this model designation is for luxury and has such interior attributes as leather door panels, leather headliner, & more. Apparently, from the condition of the leather dashboard, this car has been stored for many years. However, the front leather seats were recently reupholstered with genuine original matching leather, have firm support / comfort, and all power functions work properly. The rear seats are missing. All other leather panels, visors are in good condition. Interior is dry with plush carpeting and no signs of any leaks.
Upon receiving the car from its previous Owner of 24 years, the gas tank was removed to discover significant corrosion around the fuel sending unit (top side) and cannot be reused. Although the engine cranks over strong and fires up with the use of starting fluid, the actual running condition cannot be verified due to a faulty fuel pump. The suspension pump, sunroof, windows, lights, appear to function properly. Previous Owner stated no transmission problems and the car is road worthy once running. Mileage notation on title indicates "exceeds mechanical limits". The body is in solid original condition with limited corrosion at the rear quarter panels, passenger front fender (underside near rocker), and passenger rear taillight. Upon inspection & treatment of these areas, the underside of the car (floors, wheel wells & chassis) is in very good condition for a vehicle of this age without any signs damage or collision. Although worn & aged, the body appears to be 90% + original paint with some minor parking dents. Driver's door latch is sticking & and does shut completely. The original front valance w/ foglights is in excellent condition. Chrome trim is bright and the rubber window & door seals remain soft / pliable. The original alloy rims including the spare are in excellent condition with expired Michelin tires. A partial toolkit, service records, clean Ohio title, and radio manual with code are provided with this car. Single original key works all locks & ignition.
As an enthusiast of older German cars, I'm hopeful that someone will purchase this project to put it back on the road. If I had an arsenal of BMW parts & knowledge, like I do older Mercedes, then I certainly would do so. This car has plenty of life and should remain intact. Otherwise, I would have dismantled it for individual part sales as I have with many other less fortunate cars.
