Car description |

This is a 1987 BMW 520i. It was imported into the US from Japan, but is LHD. It has a valid VIN, and I have it insured with a regular insurance company, clean title in the state of Florida. Some of the US VIN searches don't like one of the digits (I think the year of manufacture) but the international ones work fine.
It runs well, and the only mechanical problem I think it currently has is that the radiator fan is not turning on - I believe it's a fan switch but could be the fan itself. The AC worked previously but isn't working now, probably just needs to be charged. It has a brand new battery, a recent oil and filter change, and had full 60,000 mile service last year (I have the service records for that).
The car has the M-Technic package, which involved the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and lowered suspension. The wheels are off of a later 5 series. I have the original wheels from the car, but they are in a European size and it is hard to find tires for them. They would come with the car free if you want them.
The odometer is in Kilometers, and the mileage is original - only about 62,200 miles. I have a brand new (reworked) gauge cluster in miles that I had set for 62,350 miles, ready to be installed. The dash is pretty cracked, as is typical for these cars. I have a spare dash (pictured) which needs to be cleaned up, but only has one very small crack as far as I can tell. The spare wheels, gauge cluster, and upper dash are all included in the sale.
The paint on the hood is bubbling - I think the color isn't a perfect match, my guess is the hood was repainted at some point and not done right. The rest of the paint on the car is a really nice color, but is sun faded, oxidized, etc. Some good detailing may restore some vibrancy but I'm not sure.
The interior smells like an old German car, of course. The front seats have lost a lot of their support and comfort. I was planning on buying two aftermarket seats. The passenger door handle doesn't work, it broke last year and I haven't gotten around to fixing it or looking into the problem.
I love this car, but I simply don't have enough time for a project car right now.
