Car description

Ah, 1989!!! What an amazing year. It brought the last season of Miami Vice on Friday nights, real music, fall of the Berlin Wall, and a climax of a decade-long economic boom during which greed become good. Back then, if you had the means, you could find yourself at a Rolls Royce/Bentley dealer and plop down a whopping $118,900 for this sexy beast of a car, the Bentley Mulsanne S. This Bentley is basically the normally aspirated twin brother of the Turbo R, sharing many high performance components and suspension. I still remember reading in an auto magazine that the acceleration in a Bentley was like being in a safe being tossed out of a window of a high-rise building. This experience was not for me then, I was a junior college-bound high school senior, driving a rusty MGB with tin soup cans and hose clamps holding the exhaust together. Over the following 30 years, I have been fortunate enough to be able to buy many of the cars on the posters that adorned the walls of my teenage bedroom. This was one of my lusted-after cars, but now it's time to pass it on.
I bought this Bentley in 2016 with about 72k miles and paid a lot less than $118k. It came with a stack of old service records, always a good sign, which I will pass on to the new buyer. After my purchase, I had it serviced, changed out the rear gas shocks and V-belts, but little else needed to be done. I drove the Bentley very infrequently over the next year or so and parked it in 2017 when another big-engined sedan stole my heart and wallet. This Bentley never failed me mechanically or broke down to speak of. Even after a couple years in storage, the car started up last month (July, 2019) without issue and it still drove well. That said, the air conditioning no longer blows ice-cold air, the emergency brake cable has broken and the fuel door solenoid is inoperative. All other systems (gauges, power windows/seats, etc) work fine.
The Bentley makes strong oil pressure and does not run hot. Despite the tremendous weight, it has good power and feels solid going down the road. You feel like a Carnegie or a Morgan in this car, seriously. The transmission shifts well and brakes/hydraulic suspension system is in fine shape with no troubling warning lights. Tires have plenty of tread but are older and should be replaced soon.

The car has an older repaint in black that looks great, but is not without flaws. A skilled detailer or polisher could do wonders with it. The interior is black leather with red piping and the upholstery has no rips, tears, or horrible flaws. The carpet has minor wear and the wood dash has a few lacquer cracks but both are still very serviceable. Vintage 80's built-in cell phone in the armrest of the front seat so you can pretend to call your dope connection or get that "sell" order to Duke & Duke before the market closes.

I have bought and sold a number of collector vehicles on ebay and understand it can be a daunting prospect. I will assist a buyer in whatever ways I am able to, but please remember the following: The car is sold without warranty and "as is". This is a used car. Specifically, this is a 30-year old used British car. Despite how lovely it appears, please so not expect a showroom condition new car. You can however expect compliments and envy wherever you drive it. It's the lure of a Crewe car; and this one can probably be had for the price of a used Honda or Toyota. This is a NO RESERVE auction.

Take a good look at the pictures and be the judge of the condition yourself, I have done my best to describe it accurately. The miles may be slightly higher than the auction information. I always encourage and will assist any prospective buyers with a pre-purchase inspection at their expense at any reputable shop in the LA area. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. I am happy to send additional pictures at a buyers request and will be posting a "start up" and driving video for those unable to personally inspect. The car is very close to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and I can facilitate transportation there for International shipping. The car is advertised locally and is subject to a prior sale. A $500. deposit is due within 24 hours of auction close (Paypal ok) with the balance payable in Cash, Cashier's check, or wire transfer.
