Car description |
---|
This car is a near replica of an early 60’s Austin Healey, sort of a combination of the 100 and 3000 series cars but with widely flared fenders to accommodate larger tires and wheels. It was produced from a kit by Classic Roadsters, purchased in 1990. The MX version was the high performance model, less true to the original cars than the other models offered. This car spent many years in climate controlled storage and has only 2,500 original miles !! The car is very light, weighs approximately 2300 pounds.
This car is CA smog legal with only a simple PCV valve; a ’65 327 cid V8 Chevrolet block is the basis for the engine. It uses CA smog legal parts to improve performance. Engine modifications were professionally performed at Marin Speed & Machine in Marin County, CA (all documented) and include:
Balanced & Blueprinted Edelbrock Aluminum heads and Aluminum intake
Block magnafluxed Edelbrock 600 CFM carb with auto choke
Roller camshaft conversion Roller rocker arms
9.8:1 static compression Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons; .030 over
Iskenderian roller camshaft (meant to exceed the performance of the 327 350hp OEM unit)
Specs: Lift: (I) .485 @ .050 ; (E) .505 ; Duration (I) 217*, (E) 225*, both at .050
MSD billet electronic distributor std oil pump installed, high vol pump included
Spin-on oil filter conversion 3” Edelbrock chrome air cleaner and valve covers
Engine cooling via a custom triple pass radiator with dual thermostatically controlled electric fans
High volume Edelbrock aluminum waterpump
The transmission is a TH350 (rebuilt before install) with shift kit and a B&M 2200 stall convertor
The differential is a Ford 8.0” with 3.08 gears
Mustang II rack and pinion steering with disc brakes (manual); drum brakes in the rear
“Vintage” VDO instruments, including a programmable speedometer
Sport suspension with coil springs and anti-sway bars both front and rear
Custom exhaust with turbo style mufflers
Crager wheels (15 x 7 front, 15 x 8 rear); tires are Yokohama, 215-60-15, front, Gran Trac Radial GT, 255-60-15 rear
The car has never been “completed” in the sense that it was meant to be driven in SoCal in nice weather and be kept as light as possible; sale includes numerous new parts to complete it if desired. These include a brand new soft top and supports, rollup windows (crank mechanisms, glass and trim), optional fiberglass hardtop kit, center console, chrome fender mount racing mirrors, chrome windshield trim. Also included is a custom car cover, the original assembly manual and factory promotional materials.
As is, with a little work and a roll bar, this would make a great track day car.
