Mid 1960's VW Dune Buggy with fiberglass body and 1969 chassis and engine. Unsure of the body year. but I first spotted it in about 1968 as a boy. and then it disappeared. I was traveling through the country in 1978 and spotted the frog eye headlights peering from an open barn. I found the owner and convinced him to sell it. I was able to salvage only the body. so I modified a 1969 VW beetle frame and engine and got it back on the road. A local artist/auto body friend of mine created the paint from silver metal flake and airbrushed designs over a few bottles of Jack Daniels. It has an Imron clear coat which has protected it well. The interior was built and upholstered and has a rumble seat that flips up to expose the battery. No tears and it's still in excellent condition. I've only seen one other body make like this one and haven't had any luck identifying the manufacturer. The fiberglass over the hood/gas tank area swelled a bit from the gas vapors. so I coated the interior of the tank to seal it better. Could use carpet. currently has blue shag. Transmission works but does grind sometimes when down shifting. Engine could use a tune up from lack of use. I take her out a couple times a year. People stare. wave and honk everywhere I go. She's tons of fun! It pains me to sell her but she sit's stored in my garage most of the time and I'd like to see someone enjoy it and show her off. She's been my pal for 36 years! They were built simulating a '67 Corvette and one of them was used in the 60's TV show "The Monkees". Style 500. I'm still unable to find any identification tags on the fiberglass body.
