Car description

Quite a few years back i purchased this car intending to make it into a Hurst Sc/Rambler fantasy convertible. My money has since been diverted to my other AMC cars. I have decided i should sell this as it is not getting the attention it deserves. Up for bids is a 1966 American Motors Rambler American 440 Convertible. All AMC cars are relatively rare and some more than others. This is no exception. In 1966 only 2029 Rambler American convertibles were produced of which only 28 of them were V8 cars. Only a fraction of that number still survive. This is one of them. This car is what i call a project car. When i bought it i was able to drive it onto the trailer, ut it was not what i would call a roadworthy car. Hence, his is a project car needing a full restoration. Pleaselook closely at the pics as they tell the story better than anything. You need to study the pics carefully along with what i will tell you to assess if this car is what you are looking for in a project car. When i bought the car it was stored in an old building, nd although it was generally sheltered the roof leaked on the car.......time passed.......the top deteriorated........water lay on the floor for extended periods and the floor generally rusted in the lowest spots....where the driver and passenger foot area is. Once the floor rusted through the water no longer layed in those areas for an extended period of time, o the rust remained localized in those areas. As far as the unibody frame sections are concerned they are in very good condition as is any of the higher elevation areas of the car floor such as the trunk area, oor sills, rear seating area, tc. People familiar with AMC's would assume the frame sections are much like the standard car, ut they are not. Rambler convertibles got a very heavy metal beam section running the length of the car along the rocker area along with 4 separate sections of "torque boxes"; a heavy metal section that acts as a body stiffener to make the overall body stronger. The torque boxes on this car along with the unibody frame sections is in solid strong condition. There are dents and dings on this car, long with some small localized rusted sections on the body. You should be able to see these on the pics. When you look at pics of the underside of this car you can see that the overall condition is good with mostly floor section work, nd a very small piece of rocker section near the rear wheels needing attention. You can see in the picsthat i have all the sheet metal patching sections already bought. These go with the car. A newer exhaust system had been installed before i got it, nd the owner claimed to me the engine had been rebuilt a few years earlier, ut there is no way i can verify that statement. Of course the car needs a new top. Look closely at the pics and you can see the seats and rear side panels are pretty decent, ut the door panels are not good looking. The dash pad has one crack in it pictured. As i stated earlier i had intended to make this an SC/Rambler fantasy convertible clone car which of course they never made. Over the years i collected many of the parts to make this SC/Rambler fantasy car a reality. I have a long list of parts, ody and otherwise, cquired to make this a V8 performance car. Many of these parts came from a 1969 Rambler American to make this car appear as a 1969 model. These CONVERSION PARTS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION. I'm selling this car as a "stock" car as bidders who want this car might want to restore it to it's original condition. HOWEVER, will entertain selling these V8 conversion parts separately to the winning bidder, f they are interested in making this into a V8 performance car. I would charge no more or less than i paid forthe parts myself. I am NOT interested in selling these parts separately to private parties outside the winning bidder. This being said; questions are welcome. Remember to look closely at the pictures, s i cannot be expected to give every detail someone might be interested in about the car, n the wording or pictures. This car is sold AS IS, ith no warranty expressed or implied. This car is a project carneeding a full restoration and is almost 50 years old. You can reasonably expect to have to restore it to make it roadworthy. The winning bidder is responsible to arrange for and pay for transport to your location. I am willing to assist in loading the car when it is picked up. I will not arrange/pay shipping for this car. This is a great opportunity for someone to have this rare Rambler convertible. Most people have never even seen one, nd in other than an AMC car show, ou will probably have the only one there anywhere you go. I have a clear title. Happy Bidding!

Revision; It has been brought to my attention that some people have mistaken this car as a V8 car. Let me make this clear........it has a 6 cylinder engine with automatic trans on the column. I do however have a running 343 V8 engine and Borg Warner M11 automatic that is NOT included, ut can be part of the package i described as the V8 performance parts and 1969 body panels that are NOT included in this auction. If the winning bidder wants these V8/performance/body items they can be negotiated and purchased separately.
