Car description |
---|
This is my 1975 AMC that I bought a year ago. I'm told the car is originally from Texas and spent some time in Massachusetts. the guy I purchased it from had it for about 14 years here in NY. I don't think he drove it much if at all in the winter. The car is super clean in all the usual structural spots that like to rot out. It does need some body work, the rockers need attention the driver side rear quarter has a small rust spot and the driver front floor pan needs to be addressed.
I drove the car over an hr back to my place from where I bought it. My mechanic and I spent about a week or 2 getting it ready to daily drive. points distributor was replaced with a newer electronic on off a parts eagle. some electronic gremlins were addressed. The rear drums and breaks were replaced (still had factory rear drums and muffler). Original muffler and tailpipe was rusted. Replaced it with a good system off a parts eagle. Over the summer while driving the carb was rebuilt new tires were put on. One tire is brand new because I got a flat on some road debris. Other things that have been done are wheel bearings, upper and lower ball joints, front shocks, new brake pads and rotors turned. The front cross member had cracked from 45 years of stress and a poor design by AMC. The cross member was removed and rebuilt and platted for extra strength.
The car was my daily driver all last summer I put close to 20k on it. I co-own a tech company and I drove this to clients all over NY roads and took it on a trip to Jersey and back. I picked up an manual eagle wagon that will replace this and I have many other projects.
As you can tell by pictures the interior needs work the front seats i'm told are out of a cutlass. The rocker bridges tick once the car warms up. the trans pan gasket needs to be replaced and so does the valve cover gasket. I just made sure fluids were always topped off. The 904 trans was swapped out for a heavier 727. Could use new rear springs and shocks. (sags a bit) The heat doesn't work. I think the core is plugged I have an extra one I'll include. This would make a great easy restoration/ restood project or drive it as is. I personally like the patina.
The car was NOT driven over the winter in NY salt. I washed it top and bottom before parking it for the winter.
