Offered without reserve is one of the rarest American Motors vehicles ever produced. The 1977 Hornet AMX was a one year only, limited production model. And while the Levi's denim interior was a regular option for many AMC cars and Jeeps in 1977, it was not available in the Hornet AMX. However a very limited run of just 100 Levi's Hornet AMX's was produced, and these included a special plate on the dash proclaiming each car as 1 of 100 built. It remains unknown exactly why these were produced, and why only 100 cars were commissioned. What is known is that after 42 years only 4 of the 100 built are accounted for today, so this car represents 25% of the known survivors. These were the only Hornet AMX's with a blue interior, and it is believed that all 100 were white 6-cylinder powered cars.
This car was originally sold at Northland AMC in Thornton, Colorado and still has the remains of a dealer sticker on the tail panel. It also wears most of it's original Alpine White paint as far as I can tell, with no overspray to indicate a repaint. As such there are many small dings, paint chips, and blemishes all over the car. I have changed out the left front fender because it was dented by the marker light. There is no evidence of any other accident damage. Currently the front air dam, bumper and grille have been removed and are included with the car.
I found this car in New Mexico where it had been parked outdoors for an extended period, so it's somewhat weathered but mostly complete and serviceable. There are a few small areas of rust, in particular the left front corner of the roof and below that on the door sill. But overall the car is very solid and complete. The interior has suffered from exposure to the sun and will require refurbishment. Correct new fabric is available for the seats, as well as new carpet. Included is a complete extra dash assembly and extra door panels for restoration or parts. The headliner is very nice. All of the glass is good as well as the rear louvers. The car ran and yard drove seven years ago when I bought it, but I have never driven it on the road. It will need to be gone through mechanically and have a battery installed before it is driven. It will also need new tires although all 4 of the original aluminum 5-slot wheels are included.
The original door tag is still in place documenting this as an original Levi's Hornet AMX. Many extra parts are also included, even some NOS parts like the hard to find bullseye hood emblem that was only used on Hornet AMX's with the large hood decal. Mileage showing is 70,547 which I believe is accurate but cannot guarantee.
Due to the rarity of this car it would be a shame to change the color, or hot rod it by dropping in a V8. It deserves to be carefully restored to its original glory where it will be a guaranteed show winner and magazine feature car. That was my plan but I just have too many other projects. Levi's Hornet AMX production was the same as the 1970 Trans Am Javelin, but with a much lower survival rate. This is a car that you will likely never see another of, even at the AMO Nationals or Kenosha Homecoming.
Car is offered without reserve so bid to own. Sold AS IS and where is with no warranty of any kind. Transport or delivery of car and extra parts is the responsibility of the winning bidder. Clean title, car is located in Medina Ohio. Full payment is due within 10 days of auction close, and the car doesn't move until all funds are securely in the bank. Please contact me with any questions or if you would like to inspect the car in person.
