Car description

Some things never change. In 1974 AMC made a (then) new commercial with a catchphrase that left everyone asking "WHAT'S A MATADOR?" In 2018 people look at this car and still ask "What is a Matador?"
The Matador has been one of those cars that for years have quietly fell through the cracks in middle america. The typical mainstream only people who buy in groups that purchase what everyone else buys including following their parents their family drives that kept up with the Jones next door. They are always better accustomed and go through life with blinders on and think only GM or Ford makes cars. Or worse, those that identify with Chrysler/Diamler or now Fiat who consider an AMC a "Mopar" product. American Motors was purchased by Chrysler in 1987 long after the muscle/pony wars which in no way it is the same at all (thank goodness)
If you are one of "those" individuals above it is time to step out of the box for a second look. This IS a Matador.
This sale is for a 1975 AMC Matador that I bought pretty much like you see and put away. It came from the state of Alabama and is very dry. From the underside you can see the original painted body color and factory undercoat and sealers still intact.
The story I was told was it is an original 35,000 mile car. I do believe 100% that it is correct. I have had the privilege of owning several low mileage AMC's. In fact I removed the original AMC logo fuel filter which I pictured. It still has many of the elements of the car to dictate that it has had minimal use.
The other part of the story is that it was inherited by the grand son when the original owner past. It was at that time the car was stanced (or lowered) A full custom bent aluminum exhaust with Flowmaster brand mufflers (not cheap knockoffs) and was installed at a cost of nearly $500.. Never before has a stock AMC V8 sounded so good. It is very throaty sounding without being over the top. The car wears it's original paint and was clearcoated. The clear coat is peeling in spots and may or may not be able to be saved. The car when new wore a white padded top. It was removed prior to me obtaining the car and for good reason. A white top on a beautiful Red car with Black interior looks very out of place. A black roll on bed liner material was applied to the roof and looks great while protecting the top. Also the trim around the windows has been covered by a quality 3M carbon Fiber wrap and again looks awesome. If you like the stock look just peel off.
The Matador is powered by an honest AMC 304 V8. The transmission is a column shifted automatic. The interior is Black and is above average with the slightest amount of fading. No rips/seam splits again very nice. The seats lay back in typical Nash/Rambler fashion for those overnight trips where you can sleep in the car. Has factory A/C and blows cold as you would expect.
The car has a modified suspension and is lowered with the wheels changes the entire look of the whole car. A lowered car may not be your cup of tea but it is mine. I bought the car specific for that reason with the intent on taking it to the next level. Alas that day will NOT come for me. Hopefully it will for you. This would make a nice entry level car that won't break the bank and still give years and years of reliable service and can be enjoyed by the whole family. AMC engineered this car for maximum reliability and economy as they did in all their cars. It has the most interior room in it's class as well as trunk space. The car rides as good as it looks and would make the best road car to take on those long trips.
The best thing is you would never loose it at a car show in a sea of Camaro's and Chevelles or mustangs and Roadrunners. Simply put no one else will have one. Being different is good. Having a good car is great. This is a Matador.
