Offered for sale is this 1968 American Motors AMX true Texas Survivor project 2-seat muscle car. This X-code 390 car is now powered by a 360 4bbl. Tucked away in a shipping container in bone dry El Paso, Texas since 1991, this the car had not seen the light of day until just a few weeks ago. Ran when parked, and we got it to run and lot drive again ! One could not ask for a more solid example with all original sheet metal. Paint is believed to be factory original as well. Paint has checking and chips throughout, see photos. Needs complete restoration but good base to work with. Some light rust bubbling at the bases of both rear Quarter Panels. Exterior trim items are in exceptional condition in terms of original, and this includes all original Glass Panels. It's all there less a driver front parking lamp and the trim at the front of the Hood. There are some minor dings a few dents, notably a dent on passenger front fender, a ding on the hood, again SEE PHOTOS.
The Vehicle Interior shows to be well preserved and original. Cloth Seat inserts were an option in 1968, however it appears these have been replaced at some time or ? . Good condition. A very 1970's looking aftermarket Tachometer was installed in the gauge cluster at some time. Everything else inside the car seems pretty much untouched since 1968.
The car is stored in Talty, Texas and available for inspection by appointment. Contact Brent at 214-354-5386 or Sam at 972-748-6389 with any questions.
Inspection of the Undercarriage appears to be exceptionally solid throughout with no serious issues at all, and the Trunk Pan is solid as well. SEE PHOTOS BELOW
We managed to get the Vehicle to run and drive around our driveway, and since the Video was taken, the car will start instantly and idle nicely without the aid of starting fluid, and assisted by a remote gas can as a precaution from a Fuel Tank that is likely full of debris and should be removed and properly cleaned. Surprisingly, the Carburetor works great, and no exhaust leaks. Mileage on the car is believed to be original, the motor does not smoke, no strange noises, and runs strong. This car obviously ran well when put up in storage. The Transmission is in working order although the Shift Linkage needs to be rebuilt to shift with more authority. Seriously, a set of Tires, and a Brake Job as being the greatest expense along with some tinkering, and this AMX is back on the road. Drive it and enjoy it while you restore it, or leave it in It's original state of glory. CAR WILL NEED TO BE TRAILERED, IN-OP BRAKES, NEEDS FUEL SYSTEM REPAIR, ETC. ENGINE RUNS ON AUXILIARY GAS CAN SEE VIDEO BELOW & LISTEN TO ENGINE, SEE CAR UP-CLOSE. NUMEROUS PHOTOS UNDERNEATH ALSO POSTED BELOW.

This was a well optioned example, rare to see a 4-Speed car equipped with Air-Conditioning & Tilt Steering column.
