Car description |
---|
You probably don't run into an AMC Rambler too often, but take a good look at this unusually cool 1965 AMC Rambler Classic 770 convertible. If you squint a little bit, maybe it looks a bit like a Chevelle, and with a strong-running 327 cubic inch V8, it runs like one too. Oh, and then check out the price and decide again if perhaps this isn't just about the coolest ragtop for the money anywhere.Black-on-red is a fantastic combination and it sure looks like that's this Rambler's original combination. The black paint is probably factory-applied, so it's showing some patina, but it's dignified, not beat-up, and someone has obviously taken great care of this car over the past 50 years. The great thing about original paint is that you know there aren't any nasty surprises waiting underneath and with black, you can see that it's in great shape, with straight quarters and very good panel alignment, all belying the car's very affordable price tag. Of course it's got a few signs of age, with scratches and nicks here and there, but it seems to simply invite you to get in and have fun rather than worrying about perfection. Let the other guys do that. We can guarantee that it'll attract a lot of attention everywhere it goes simply because nobody has seen one before and there's enough chrome and stainless trim to make it look like it should be a lot more expensive. It's got a very cool, almost gothic look that works rather well. The red interior is sharply dressed, with handsome striped bench seats and matching door panels. Like the exterior, the interior appears to be mostly original and we definitely like the look. The steering wheel has a cool horn ring and decorative trim and shows only minor signs of age, and the dashboard has enough bright trim to make the interior look upscale, not cheap. The red carpets have likely been replaced, simply because they're too nice to be old, but things like the dash pad and door panels don't seem to have suffered under the hot sun. The clock and radio aren't working, which isn't unusual, but you do get a recent white power convertible top that stows under a matching white boot, and against the black and red, it looks awesome. There's also a gigantic trunk with a proper mat that's ready for a road trip. You think Chevy was the only one with a 327? Guess again, because this Rambler packs a rather potent V8 that offers plenty of punch and a user-friendly demeanor. There's a Holley 4-barrel carburetor up top, so throttle response is crisp and there's plenty of torque at just about any speed. It has obviously been recently detailed with corporate red engine enamel on the engine, along with a big air cleaner up top with a proper reproduction decal on it. New ignition components help it run properly and there's a big radiator up front. It also comes with power steering and power brakes, making it a breeze to drive and the 3-speed automatic transmission has quick reflexes when you're out on the road and need a little extra power. The undercarriage is original but clean, more indications of a car that has led a life out of the elements, and there are highway-friendly gears out back, so you can take this car just about anywhere without worries. Steel wheels with spinner hubcaps are the right choice and it carries 205/70/14 blackwalls that are perfect for the Rambler's low-key look. For about half the price of a Bowtie, you can have a cool Rambler. Sure, you won't look like everyone else at the cruise-in, but isn't that kind of the point? Call today!
