Car description |
---|
This is a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce. Arguably, the most desirable of the Guilietta/Giulia Spider series and clearly the one with the most performance. Those in the know will be aware that there were only 1091 of them produced in 1964/1965, and the surviving numbers are estimated to be far less than half. I have owned this car for over thirty years. The time has come to part with it as it now deserves a level of restoration that I know I will not perform.
Alfa Romeo's Centro Documentazione in Italy has confirmed this vehicle's chassis number AR 390775 corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce (101.18), manufactured on the 5th of May 1965 and sold on the 31st of May 1965 in Chicago USA. They also confirmed the body color as red, with a black interior. I have attached a picture of the communication. The engine block number is AR00121.02240 with is believed to be the original engine per the number sequence in the in the ALFA ROMEO 1600 SPIDER VELOCE REGISTER (101.18) http://www.veloceregisters.net/veloce.htm, and the CLASSIC ALFA ROMEO REGISTRY https://www.classicalfaromeoregistry.com/type-750-101-giulietta-giulia-spider/type-750-101-giulietta-giulia-sprint. I elected not to register the car due to person privacy reasons.
The car has been in covered storage during my ownership. It was used as driver in Honolulu and parked in the mid 1980's when I discovered it. The previous owner acquired it from a family member that was an Alfa Romeo fanatic. When first purchased,I removed the radiator and drained the coolant. The car appears to be relatively complete and original and has been poorly repainted/bodyworked in the distant past under prior ownership. The body/chassis is very sound for its age and known rust areas, with good floorboards and lower structural members. I have included a link below with over 100 pictures for you to review. The hood unlocks and open fine, however the driver's door and trunk latches are faulty/frozen. The top will need to be replaced, with all mechanical parts intact.
Mechanically the car presents itself as an original Veloce car as documented in the pictures. The 1600 engine has the proper Veloce parts, but of course items like the Veloce header and original air ducting will need to be replaced. The engine does not turn, and no attempt has been made to physically move the crank for fear of damage. The 5 speed transmission shifts smoothly in all gears while in the parked state, and the ZF steering box feels crisp with little play. This car has the finned drum brakes on all four corners, and the braking system will need to be properly rebuilt. All of the wheels appear to be the correct oval Borranis'. There are hubcaps for two of the four wheels. All four tires are in poor condition and need to be replaced. The radiator will be reinstalled in the car for shipping, and the original tonneau cover will be included with the car. There are no other parts that will be included with the car.
The vehicle is located in a dry mountainous area of the Big Island of Hawaii, USA. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer as the vehicle is being sold FOB, Big Island, Hawaii. For economical shipping, the vehicle can be shipped via Pasha for $870+200 inop fee=$1,070 to Oakland, Los Angeles, and San Diego (pasha.com). Please visit their website to find out more information. I have had success shipping high-end and non-op vehicles via Pasha to California as I have been liquidating my collection. I am willing to provide local flat bed trailering and delivery to the local shipping ports at no cost. If you desire containerized or international shipping, I will personally make sure the vehicle is delivered to the Hawaii location needed at my cost. I am willing to provide secure storage at no cost if needed for up to three months, provided the vehicle is fully paid for and insured. Due to the age of the tires, I recommend they be replaced prior to shipping, especially if Pasha is used. The tires may not need to be replaced for containerized shipping. I will work with you to find tires at a reasonable cost depending on your end-goal for the tires. Amazon is very economical and have the appropriate inexpensive tires for the vehicle for shipping purposes https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QL6ONQ/. The tire purchase and mounting will be at the expense of the buyer.
