1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate
There are certain cars that when you see them, you can’t help but admire them. When I first laid my eyes on this Alfa Romeo Spider, I said “I need this”. I then showed it to my wife and she said “I love this car, we need this”. Yup, she’s a keeper, my wife and the Alfa. I bought it for her right after as a birthday gift to her. This Alfa in particular was in such good condition, I couldn’t pass up. I can’t even count the amount of times people said “nice car” to us while we were driving it. I have gone through the car so it is a well sorted classic ready to give you more years of use and pleasure. We lovingly enjoyed this car and it absolutely pains me to sell it but our storage situation changed and I can’t bear the thought of keeping this wonderful Italian machine outside.
When I had purchased this car in June of 2011, the paint was already professionally redone with a quality finish. There was no rust on the car. Even the underside is original and solid. The convertible top was just replaced with black cloth for a richer appearance than the original vinyl. It does have a black vinyl boot to cover it. The interior is beautiful with the carpets and custom Alfa Romeo embroidered floor mats in excellent condition. The vinyl seats are also nice. The driver’s side does have a split in the seam by the edge of the bottom bolster. It is a small blemish but in the interest of full disclosure I wanted you to be aware of it. My plan was to have it repaired before this year’s cruising season but that is put on hold. The dash is in nice shape with only one minor crack. The door panels are in great shape. The trunk is finished off with black carpet and looks great. The car is mechanically sound with lots of typical maintenance items already done. It runs and drives well. The car rides on 14” BWA alloy wheels with BFGoodrich tires. I do not have the original steel wheels. Here is a list of repairs done since our ownership:
- § New Clutch Pivot Arm
- § New Clutch Master Cylinder
- § New Clutch Slave Cylinder
- § New Stainless Braided Clutch Hydraulic Hose
- § New Clutch, Pressure Plate and Throw Out Bearing
- § Fuel Filter

- § Transmission Mount
- § Driveshaft Support
- § Plenum Hose
- § Airflow Meter Hose

Here are some of the standard features and options this lovely roadster has:
- § 2.0L Dual Overhead Cam 4-cyl with Bosch Fuel Injection
- § 5-Speed Manual Transmission
- § Solid Rear Axle
- § Manual Steering
- § Power Disc Brakes
- § Manual Windows
- § Manual Convertible Top
- § Wing Windows
- § Heater
- § Defroster
- § Remote Trunk and Gas Fill Release
- § Pioneer DEH-P49001B AM/FM/CD Stereo with Aux iPod cable

- § 14” BWA Alloy Wheels
- § 205/60/14 BFGoodrich Traction T/A Radial Tires
- § Car Cover
There is very little to do to this car, if anything. It is turnkey just the way it sits. It has always drawn attention whether I am going to the convenience store or a car show in it. My wife and I will be truly sad when this car is sold. I even wrote a song mentioning this car in it. If by chance some of my other cars in my collection sell before this one does, we will find a way to keep it. I welcome the opportunity to speak with any potential buyers on the phone and you are welcome to have the car inspected prior to your purchase.
